First of all, Lemko was not a term used by Rusyns that lived on the southern slopes of the Carpathian mountains to identify themselves. Jarabina slovakia is therefore not a Lemko village. Furthermore, because of the repression of Rusyn identity in communist times in Czechoslovakia, this is likely why some of his extended family might have indicated Ukrainian in their passports in communist Czechoslovakia.
