Untitled[edit]

There are some discrepancies in my sources in the dates of events in his life. I have tried to find a consensus in the sources, and have used the dates that seem most likely. Here are some discrepancies:

  • HE arrived in portland June oof 1776

Hotel Galvez[edit]

There was a hotel built in 1911 in Galveston, TX called the Hotel Galvez. I already put it on the article.--172.162.10.37 (talk) 21:18, 8 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

  • The hotel is still in existance, as well. The hotel's restaurant is known as "Bernardo's", too [1]. --Nsaum75 (talk) 04:11, 9 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Bernardo de Gálvez y Madrid, Count of GálvezBernardo de Gálvez – Bernardo de Gálvez is much more commonly used than Bernardo de Gálvez y Madrid, Count of Gálvez. --Relisted Cúchullain t/c 16:24, 10 December 2012 (UTC)2.51.180.28 (talk) 05:51, 13 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

  • You're probably right, but the current title conforms to WP:NCROY, a guideline on the naming of biographies on nobility, and thus is probably the right title. --BDD (talk) 00:01, 8 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Single-purpose account Granitery hasn't offered any explanation in an edit summary for deleting content, and only response at this point is to edit-war.[edit]

Granitery, editing with a single-purpose account, has been arbitrarily deleting links in this article to pertinent English WP articles on particular battles, and in a couple of instances, replacing them with links to Spanish WP articles. I can't see that these are an improvement, although he has made a few other edits that were good. He hasn't offered any explanation in an edit summary for deleting content, and his only response at this point is to edit-war. Carlstak (talk) 19:40, 30 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Excessive links[edit]

I am moving an over-abundance of "External links" here in case any can be incorporated into the article or any "swapping-out" that might be desired.

  • Equestrian Gálvez statue at DCmemorials.com

Viscount of Galveston/Vizconde de Galveston?[edit]

I see no proof anywhere that there ever was a title called Viscount of Galveston. Does anybody have any proof of this title? A quick Google Books search shows no such title in the 19th century or the 20th century in any books. It only shows up post 2014 or so. And I'd guess based on its addition here on Wikipedia. TuckerResearch (talk) 14:20, 8 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Good question. It looks like it was added in 2006 with this edit. It was part of the es-wiki version from 2007 to August 2021 with an edit that says "the vizconde title was dropped when he became count" (Spanish: Elm titulo de VIZCONDE desaparece al nombrarle Conde. There's also no mention at DBE. I'm going to cut it from the lede based on that and your quick search. Even if he did hold a title with that name, it would have been superseded by the count title, so a mention in the article would be appropriate, but not as part of his name in the lede. — Carter (Tcr25) (talk) 15:03, 8 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I have found "Vizconde de Galvezton" with a Z in books from 1979 and 1990. TuckerResearch (talk) 16:01, 8 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Interesting, can you tell if that was an earlier title he held (replaced by Count, as was stated on es-wiki) or something else? —Carter (Tcr25) (talk) 16:14, 8 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I can't find it, yet. It bothers me that it isn't in any printed works prior to that. I'll try to search some Spanish manuscript sources I have access to (even though that is primary source research). And, I'll try some other databases in English and Spanish. I see "Galvezton" as an early version of the name of the island/bay/town, but no "conde de," "vizconde de," etc. TuckerResearch (talk) 16:20, 8 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Found a proper source and the proper spelling of the title. "Gálvez-Town" after Galveztown, Louisiana, founded and named thus in the time period. Here is what I added to the article:

He was given the titles Count of Gálvez ("conde de Gálvez") and Viscount of Gálvez-Town ("vizconde de Gálvez-Town") by Carlos III on May 20, 1783.[1]

I think just Count of Gálvez should remain in the lede, as the title of count would supersede that of viscount. TuckerResearch (talk) 16:47, 8 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Nice work. The Gálvez-Town spelling is surprisingly helpful. I also found this source confirming the info: de Mayoralgo y Lodo, José Miguel, Conde de los Acevedos (2013).
