Catalogue numbers in discography?

[edit]

Is it really necessary to have the catalogue numbers in the discography? There are variations, especially taking other issues into account. Is it worth it listing the CDVX 2-cd set of Collection, for example? I don't think they add anything, especially to an Encyclopedia entry. --Flata 04:38, 19 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:Chinacrisis2.jpg

[edit]

Image:Chinacrisis2.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 20:23, 2 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

References

[edit]

The article has been written in good faith, but has been tagged for several issues especially for a lack of inline references. This is in no way intended as a criticism, and should be regarded as flagging of areas that need attention. Please help by adding references if you can, as unsourced material can be deleted.

ESP Radio?

[edit]

User 89.169.95.164 has added a whole slew of chart entries for CC singles in Poland, Belgium, Ireland... Not sure what ref would be good for all that information, but my bigger question is: What is ESP Radio? Patricia Meadows (talk) 00:59, 18 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Part, if not all, of the answers may be found at Wikipedia:Record charts.

Thanks for the link. I perused it but didn't find anything at all about "ESP Radio". Did I miss something? Neither do I see "ESP Radio" on any other WP page. Patricia Meadows (talk) 14:57, 18 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
In that case (Spanish radio chart, anyone ?) it is not notable, and IMO should be removed. The section looks more like a laundry list as it is, and is virtually unreferenced. Even the UK chart placing cited for "Red Letter Day" (for example) does not exist, as per the Guinness Book of British Hit Singles & Albums. Be bold is my advice.

Thanks. I went ahead and removed all of it. Patricia Meadows (talk) 17:13, 18 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Next Eastern/China Crisis?

[edit]

In not too long, a disambiguation page may prove to be needed for this one. ;)195.67.149.167 (talk) 15:31, 20 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Members / Former members

[edit]

Several musicians have been attributed as being current and former members of the band without much justification. Whilst China Crisis has performed with a full band line-up on multiple occasions (and, indeed, full tours), the line-up has always fluctuated and the musicians involved have never been of crucial importance to the band - in other words it's difficult to pin down who is/were considered an official band member (if any of them were) and who is/were not. The fluidity of the line-up is consistent enough that the last show performed by a full band line-up featured a slightly altered set of musicians to the one that had been featured in the 'current members' section of the infobox up until today! Furthermore, as previously stated, many of the band's shows are performed as a duo (including all of the shows on the current tour) with the backing instrumentation being covered by one musician operating a synthesiser (and this position has also seen multiple changes on the current tour alone).

Consequently, if musicians are going to be added to the personnel sections' included on this page, reasonable consideration should be given to their actual status within the band (i.e. official member or session/touring musician) and appropriate sources need to be cited to justify their inclusion in the former.

Why were they called China Crisis?

[edit]

Seems like a pretty obvious question to answer. 49.131.8.71 (talk) 02:24, 18 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

The band answered the question in 2018 thus: - "It was from the communist era, Russia and China and the Far East, that was all exotic and it's visually so engaging. In the 70s everyone was wearing black slippers bought from Chinatown, we'd wear them on stage with our kecks tucked in our socks". I took me less that five minutes to find that via Google. Anyhow, there you have it - Derek R Bullamore (talk) 14:01, 18 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Steve Levy

[edit]

The article suggests that oboeist/saxophonist Steve Levy was merely a session musician that played on some China Crisis tracks. But the fact that Levy was pictured on record sleeves and publicity photos, and appeared in the band's promo videos and television appearances at the time, it certainly appears that Levy was considered a full member of the band in 1983/84. There again, look at the comments above, that date back to November 2015. As it stated ... appropriate sources need to be cited to justify their inclusion. Definitely not some IP editor 'flying a kite'. Other users thoughts are welcomed, but a reliable source or two out trumps most arguments. - Derek R Bullamore (talk) 18:41, 11 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
