Older Discussion[edit]

I don't see the point of having a license part because there are so many licenses in a Linux distribution, for example a desktop using GNOME has the GPL for the kernel, the LGPL for GNOME, and the x11 License for X.org. There isn't so much difference between the licenses of the Linux distributions.

How can a distro fit on a cd and not a dvd? It's still a compatible media for the image type.Orthuberra 08:07, 27 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

i was going to ask the same question. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 98.197.243.41 (talk) 03:36, 3 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

USB - Live Linux[edit]

Would be nice to know which ones are available USB ... —Preceding unsigned comment added by 91.84.78.209 (talk) 21:48, 30 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Concur. I'd like to add a column for Boots from USB stick. I'm guessing that means I get to add a purple column with question marks, which will eventually be flagged "yes" or "no". Unless someone else has already done the work... samwaltz 06:56, 21 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

List Inclusion criteria[edit]

This list continues to attract spam and non-notable entries. To manage this, I think we need to follow WP:LIST closer and have inclusion criteria. Until we come up with something better, we should only list entries that have their own articles. --Ronz (talk) 03:05, 8 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I've gone ahead and removed entries without their own articles. --Ronz (talk) 18:22, 1 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Permanent installation from live distro[edit]

How about a column for whether or not the distro is easily installable from the live distro media? I assume some distros are just designed to be used from the media, and others are live distros that you can install to hard disk from the same media if you like. zorruno (talk) 03:36, 16 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Kubuntu/Xubuntu "based on" Ubuntu?[edit]

Since Kubuntu and Xubuntu are really just versions of Ubuntu with a different environment, wouldn't it make more sense to have these listed as based on Debian? —Jake Wasdin (talk) 13:33, 2 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
