Future work on this article could be adding a section specific to open degloving injuries. Part of the work is fleshing out (pun intended) skin avulsion injury versus degloving. There doesn't appear to be any specific written criteria for classifying skin avulsions or distinguishing from degloving. They might be interchangeable in certain situations. There was one classification schema for types of degloving (not including closed internal degloving) I came across but it was intended specifically for limb degloving. This came up in articles now referenced in the lead section for degloving (as of 12/18/23).
The section on Closed internal degloving injury (Morel-Lavallée lesion) is extensive in terms of having mechanism, presentation, etc.
Section on other animals could have more information.
