I found several sentences in the article which were copypastes of the SolStation article about this star (in some cases, the accuracy of the numbers had been reduced, possibly to disguise the copypaste, but the sentence structure was exactly the same), and from the abstract of the Mayor et al. paper. I thus have reverted the article to the state it was in before the first of these copyright violations were added to the article. Icalanise (talk) 11:02, 29 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Nomenclature

[edit]

According to the VizieR description of the Cordoba Durchmusterung, which lists the star as CD-60 1303, the volume of the CD which contains HD 40307's declination zone (-60) was published in 1914. However the [VizieR description of the Cape Photographic Durchmusterung], which lists the star as CPD-60 508 shows that the volume of the CPD containing declination zone -60 was published in 1900. I'm also unclear as to why the article seems to be so uncertain as to whether the star is or isn't listed under the CD-60 1303 designation. Icalanise (talk) 20:18, 27 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not quite sure how to approach this issue. The simplest solution, however, is to delete the information concerning the CD-60 1303 designation, as it is only present as a sentence (and a half) in the article. --Starstriker7(Dime algoor see my works) 05:22, 28 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Well, I'm going to remove it and submit it for GA as a result of my terribly itchy impatience; if a solution can be found we can re-add the information. --Starstriker7(Dime algoor see my works) 00:09, 29 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

HD 40307 g

[edit]

A new planet has been discovered. It may be inhabitable Earth-like. Actually three new planets were discovered in this system, bringing the total to six.

Scary "scare" quotes

[edit]

Are the double quotes around "Super-Earths" really necessary? --KKM (talk) 01:02, 17 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

(I'm moving this then-untitled question down here.)
I think it might be. Just in this system's case.
On this topic, I notice a recent revision, commented as "do not need scare quotes". I suppose it's a minor question. But if the term "super-Earth" appears in the article title, is the wrapper around that term truly a scare quote? In my opinion, it's a quote quote. Also note: to date, the only study that concentrates upon the inner planets' (b-d) composition, has declared planet b at least more likely a "mini-Neptune", migrated in from outside, and by extension the rest of them are Neptunian as well (to f, given how clustered are b-f).
Again, this is one of those hills I don't care to die on, but I'd like at least to note that the hill is there.--Zimriel (talk) 19:11, 26 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Non-confirmation of planets e and g

[edit]

According to this presentation at the Exoplanetary Science conference 2014 in Quy Nhon, Vietnam, the 34.6-day and 192-day planets (e and g) are not confirmed with 110 additional measurements. 77.57.25.250 (talk) 19:45, 4 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

If that's the case, this article clearly, before anything else, needs a GAR to get rid of its GA status. StringTheory11 (t • c) 00:55, 5 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
