Radar range being one of the most important issues..

[edit]

in modern combat is lacking in the comparison chart. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.179.215.14 (talk) 12:32, 21 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, but it is classified anyway so the figures would be anybodys guess. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 83.248.225.21 (talk) 12:20, 10 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Line about Rafale operating cost removed

[edit]

The youtube clip that was used as reference has been withdrawn. I would also have edited the line in the references section but don't know how.

Thrust/weight ratio

[edit]

Looking at the thrusts and empty weights in the aircraft comparison table, it seems quite improbable all those thrust/weight ratios around 1.1. Typhoon and Rafale seem OK, but compare, for example, Fulcrum's thrust 2 x 62.5 kN (125kN) to its empty weight 15000kg (~147kN), therefore indicating t/w ratio way below 1. Is it the afterburning thrust used? Please, use one single method for all planes, or indicate how the ratio is computed in each case. The way it it now is quite confusing. thanks, Meson (16:21 06 December 2009 UTC) —Preceding unsigned comment added by 90.177.169.200 (talk) 16:25, 6 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Can I make a chart bout the radars.Zoravar (talk) 10:01, 13 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

comparison table- combat radius

[edit]

I have changed a (I think clearly) erroneous figure for the F/A-18E/F to the figure given in the main adrticle - but this seems suspiciously low. Part of the difficulty is that there are various radii for different mission parameters, so we may simply be comparing apples with oranges. Springnuts (talk) 12:00, 13 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Purchase of 5th generation planes

[edit]

Can someone confirm that this purchase is not related to the MRCA? (i.e. that this revert was correct). Offliner (talk) 13:02, 7 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

It's not the same - the last paragraph in the source mentions "a contract for 126 fighter planes as part of a separate US$12-billion deal for which six global aeronautical giants are in the race" as still ongoing. Good catch. In any event, the section should not have been deleted by the adder, as it is part of the history. - BilCat (talk) 13:50, 7 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

MiG-35 specs

[edit]

The official brochure of the Mig 35 from Aero India 2007 shows clearly, that it has a MTOW of 23.500Kg and a maximum combat load of 6.500 Kg. So why do you take those unreliable sources and specs?

http://www.bharat-rakshak.com/media/AeroIndia2007/Brochures/DSC03906.JPG.html

Mig 29K has the same base and has a MTOW of 22.500, just like a combat load of 5.500Kg, which confirms these specs as well! —Preceding unsigned comment added by 217.187.20.153 (talk) 21:22, 24 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Dassault Rafale Selection

[edit]

Hi, I can see that the part regarding the selection of Dassault Rafale as L1 undergoing a lot of flux - some 20-30 edits in the past few hours. Could we may be arrive at a consensus regarding language and then paste it there ? Chocolate Horlicks (talk) 18:31, 31 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

One issue I've seen is editors calling it an order even through no contract has been signed; negotiations just started. Another is adding repeated updates with unrelated text. I doubt if they will check here first.. -Fnlayson (talk) 20:04, 31 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I've added a new section and tried to consolidate the edits. I've highlighted that the selection is only for contract negotiations and not for supplying the aircraft as of yet. Notwithstanding that, it is an important selection and also the conclusion of the selection/tender process which has brought reactions from France and England. Happy to discuss, if needed. Chocolate Horlicks (talk) 06:00, 5 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Given that this was the selection for potentially one of the biggest ever defence contracts, it did generate a lot of interest in India, France and the UK. I figured the statements made by the President of France and the British High Commission and the respective companies in question were notable enough. Also, thought that final selection deserved that much content to make it proportionate for the bulk of the intro sections. I can see you've made it a little more concise... I'm fine with leaving it at that or if the quotes need to be paraphrased, I'm fine with that too. Chocolate Horlicks (talk) 19:35, 8 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Background section

[edit]

I don't feel that MRCA fighters were ordered to replace MiG-21s or because the Tejas was delayed. MiG-21s are point interceptor fighters, and will be replaced by Tejas. It is true that many MiGs are being withdrawn from service, leading to reduction in squadron numbers, but I think just a mention of this will do in the "IAF sanctioned strength" subsection. MRCA are more likely to replace the Jaguars and MiG-27s. Anyone else agree on this? --RGS (talk) 12:37, 1 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I agree, except that the MRCA do not strictly replace the Jaguars or the Mig-27, which are primarily air to ground planes, unlike the MRCA. Anir1uph (talk) 03:01, 2 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I've seen mainly the MiG-21 mentioned in sources. If you can find sources for MiG-27 and others, please reword and cite it. The "Indian Air Force summary" and "IAF sanctioned strength" sections could probably be combined and shortened. -Fnlayson (talk) 16:35, 2 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
So have I. But as you know, most newspaper articles are written by people with little or no knowledge on the matter, plus, magazines and newspapers sometimes mention a point just to make the article seem more interesting, in this case, to make the force depletion more marked, so they are not 100% reliable. Sorry if this falls under "original research", this is just my opinion. MRCA might replace Mirages too in the future, but I'm not sure about MiG-21s. --RGS (talk) 17:26, 2 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Is the subsection "Pilot Training" needed at all? --RGS (talk) 09:10, 3 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

More prone to *what*?

[edit]

This line caught my eye…

"The F-16 is also more prone to pilot errors than the Mirage 2000H, which would also work against the F-16.[34]"

What the? The reference doesn't work. Explanation? Maury Markowitz (talk) 13:25, 7 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Cyberbot II has detected that page contains external links that have either been globally or locally blacklisted. Links tend to be blacklisted because they have a history of being spammed, or are highly innappropriate for Wikipedia. This, however, doesn't necessarily mean it's spam, or not a good link. If the link is a good link, you may wish to request whitelisting by going to the request page for whitelisting. If you feel the link being caught by the blacklist is a false positive, or no longer needed on the blacklist, you may request the regex be removed or altered at the blacklist request page. If the link is blacklisted globally and you feel the above applies you may request to whitelist it using the before mentioned request page, or request its removal, or alteration, at the request page on meta. When requesting whitelisting, be sure to supply the link to be whitelisted and wrap the link in nowiki tags. The whitelisting process can take its time so once a request has been filled out, you may set the invisible parameter on the tag to true. Please be aware that the bot will replace removed tags, and will remove misplaced tags regularly.

Recent allegations of corruption/scandal

[edit]

Recently, there has been widespread criticism by Rahul Gandhi, Arun Shourie, Prashant Bhushan, Yashwant Sinha that the Rafale deal was full of irregularities and procedural lapses, and how the businessman Anil Ambani was favored during the deal. Should this be mentioned on a seperate page or should it be continued in a section on this page itself? Breakfastisready (talk) 11:33, 4 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

There is a separate page for this controversy, and I linked this page to that. Undone for some unclear reason. Mentioning here and on that users web page so that it can be re-implemented...Barath s (talk) 05:04, 2 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

GKN and Rafael and Dassault Parts Replacement.

[edit]

The arguments put forth by the Congress have moved the 3D parts printing to Malayasia. Thus the battle of f the BJP and Congress is disruptive to the Adaptive Additive 3D printing and to the Navier Stokes CFD computations. All six aircraft have these replacement parts. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Spockbuddha (talkcontribs) 11:36, 10 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
