34 Years in the House

[edit]

How does he serve 34 years in the House and is only reelected 14 times? Did he get a couple of free terms? Stevenmitchell 09:55, 12 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Banking Committee in the House

[edit]

Didn't Jim Wright also serve on the Banking Committee, if not chairing it, during the deregulation phase of the S&L banking rules? Stevenmitchell 09:55, 12 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Kathleen Day, in Chapter 29 of S&L Hell, discusses Jim Wright's actions in Congress in 1986 on behalf of a real estate developer. Wright was majority leader and later speaker of the house. Congressman Fernand J. St Germain was chairman of the House Banking Committee. — Preceding unsigned comment added by ErikKengaard (talkcontribs) 00:11, 18 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Quote

[edit]

Interesting quote:

Congress and the Cold War by Robert David Johnson Page 283:

Majority Leader Wright...privately stated that he placed greater trust in the ability to secure world peace of the new Soviet leader, Mikhail Gorbachev, then he did of Reagan.
