Borkum was a camp built and operated by the Organisation Todt in 1942 at Platte Saline on the island of Alderney in the Channel Islands. It was named afyer one of the German Fresian Islands as were the other camps on the island - Sylt, Nordeney and Hlgoland.

Until its closure in May, 1944 it held Germans and Austrians who had fallen foul of the Nazi Party or who had been found guilty of criminal offences but who had skills and expertise required for - and used to assist in - the fortification of the island.

Unlike those held at the other camps, prisoners at Borkum were treated less harshly than were Jews and Slavic prisoners. Even so, several died from the privations to which they subjected.

The camp was burned to the ground two years later and all records pertaining to its inmates were destroyed by the occupying German military.
