Dissolution of council
[edit]According to Ahram, the Shura council will be dissolved because of the ruling today. This should be added to the article. http://english.ahram.org.eg/NewsContent/1/64/44898/Egypt/Politics-/Constitution-court-ruling-means-dissolution-of-bot.aspx 69.225.239.211 (talk) 18:58, 14 June 2012 (UTC)

Move
[edit]@Ahmed M Farrag, David O. Johnson, and Charles Essie: should we rename the article to Senate (Egypt)? --Panam2014 (talk) 13:34, 26 April 2019 (UTC)
- Agree as the recent amendments have reinstated it under the name Senate. --Ahmed M Farrag (talk) 14:31, 26 April 2019 (UTC)
- Agree per above. Charles Essie (talk) 16:48, 26 April 2019 (UTC)
- Agree, though I think we should keep some Shura Council info for historical context/reference. David O. Johnson (talk) 17:00, 26 April 2019 (UTC)
- Agree per above.--Panam2014 (talk) 13:24, 4 May 2019 (UTC)

Shura Council → Senate (Egypt) – Let's make this an official discussion. Charles Essie (talk) 04:10, 1 May 2019 (UTC)
- I'm not sure I follow. Charles Essie (talk) 15:21, 1 May 2019 (UTC)
- Nevermind. It's fixed now. David O. Johnson (talk) 15:51, 1 May 2019 (UTC)
- @Charles Essie and David O. Johnson: should we vote again and ping the others users? Or it is not necessary? --Panam2014 (talk) 16:16, 1 May 2019 (UTC)
- I'm pretty sure we'll have to wait seven days and re-do the discussion. It would have been easier if someone had just moved it.... I agree with the move. Even if there isn't an actual Senate that meets right now, it still exists on paper. David O. Johnson (talk) 16:30, 1 May 2019 (UTC)
- I only did this to get more attention to the above discussion. I could easily get rid of it if that would be best. Charles Essie (talk) 16:49, 1 May 2019 (UTC)
- @Charles Essie and David O. Johnson: we could wait 2 days and close and move it. Also, I think we could begin updating the article. --Panam2014 (talk) 16:54, 1 May 2019 (UTC)

- With a different name and a non-contiguous existence, mightn't Shura Council be preserved as its own article and a new article be created for Senate (Egypt)? — AjaxSmack 01:29, 4 May 2019 (UTC)
- @AjaxSmack: it is not necessary. For exemple, the last Council of people (dissolved in 2012) have been elected in 2012 and the First House of Representatives have been elected in 2015. Also, HoR is the name of Egyptian parliament from 1923 to 1956 and since 2012. And the upper house have taken various names since 19th century and Senate from 1923 to 1956. It is better to have one article and talking about changes. --Panam2014 (talk) 13:23, 4 May 2019 (UTC)
- Ok. Thanks. — AjaxSmack 02:38, 5 May 2019 (UTC)
@Ahmed M Farrag and Charles Essie: I think you should confirm your vote in the previous section (I am not sure it is necessary but it is more clear). --Panam2014 (talk) 13:25, 4 May 2019 (UTC)
- Thanks @Panam2014: for the ping. Yes, I'm for the move as the council has been revived by the latest amendments. Page should be moved instead of creating a new one as it's basically the same council reinstated with a different name; and so not to cut it from its history. --Ahmed M Farrag (talk) 13:33, 4 May 2019 (UTC)
- @Ahmed M Farrag: it is the same thant Vice-President of Egypt despite the name have not been changed (name change or not is not so important). But we should talk about the pre-1952 HoR and Senate in the both articles? --Panam2014 (talk) 13:36, 4 May 2019 (UTC)
- @Panam2014: I can't think of a better place. The only other way, IMO, is a separate article, which I don't see the need for. --Ahmed M Farrag (talk) 13:42, 4 May 2019 (UTC)
- @Panam2014: I also see no need for a split. A move is all we need. Charles Essie (talk) 14:53, 4 May 2019 (UTC)

Update
[edit]@Ahmed M Farrag, Charles Essie, David O. Johnson, and AjaxSmack: now, we should update the article. --Panam2014 (talk) 16:29, 17 May 2019 (UTC)
- Agreed. Especially since the elections have been held. Charles Essie (talk) 01:45, 7 October 2020 (UTC)
