Speedy deletion (2007)

[edit]

Can't quite understand why this should be speedy deleted. The band released an album and several singles, and toured nationally for a few years. They seem to me to meet WP:MUSIC. I've just created the article as a stub, but will try to find more info and refs, but this is proving difficult due to the number of bands called Rain/The Rain and the commonness of that term.--Michig (talk) 16:13, 18 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

This seems familiar - I just removed a CSD from another article you created. The article was extra-stubby when created, but this one was actually pretty fleshed out, so I don't know what that's about. You may want to take it up with the person who tagged it. The Rain (band)Clark SpringsWP:PRECISE / WP:NATURALDAB. There are multiple bands named "The Rain", so this disambiguator fails WP:NCM. The primary topic The Rain is also a band, so this disambiguator is very bad. This band also performed as "Clark Springs", so a naturally disambiguated form is that name. Both bands are from England, so disambiguation by country is not possible. The current title should redirect to the disambiguation page The Rain (disambiguation) -- 70.51.46.39 (talk) 06:37, 24 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Discussion

[edit]
Any additional comments:
Michig (talk · contribs) we'll still need to move (band) to (Basingstoke band), per WP:DISAMBIGUATION In ictu oculi (talk) 08:14, 25 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Why? If the Oasis one gets redirected we will only have one article on a band called The Rain, so no need to disabiguate beyond '(band)'. --Michig (talk) 19:57, 25 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]
It doesn't matter what the Oasis band is named, this is not the only band covered on Wikipedia, so it fails WP:PRECISE in all instances, and WP:NCM -- 70.51.46.39 (talk) 04:45, 26 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]
It will likely be the only band with this name that has an article, which is the key thing. --Michig (talk) 07:03, 26 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]
That doesn't matter, since it isn't the only topic that is a band called "The Rain" covered on Wikipedia, as Oasis was precursored by "The Rain" and we aren't going to delete the Oasis article, thus coverage exists there. Indeed people could easy point out that "(band)" should point to the Oasis topic and not this one. -- 70.51.46.39 (talk) 04:43, 27 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Anyone looking for Oasis is realistically going to go straight to that page. This band is clearly the only one that had any notability with this name. We can handle the unlikely case where someone is looking for Oasis by searching on the name they briefly had with a hatnote and an entry on the dismbiguation page. A similar situation is The Warlocks, where we have one band that is notable as 'The Warlocks' but two other notable bands who (while they were pretty much unknown) went by that name for a time - there is no need for us to title that article 'The Warlocks (Los Angeles, California band)' simply because other bands that had the same name are mentioned in other articles. --Michig (talk) 09:48, 27 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]
That situation is in no way analogous. "The Warlocks" is a primary topic pagename; thus it does not carry a disambiguator. This pagename includes the parenthetical disambiguator "band", so is not a primary topic. Thus it requires additional disambiguatory material. If you wish to propose this to be the primary topic of the term "The Rain", then you can put up an alternate proposal to move this article to The Rain (and move the other pages around), but as it is right now, it requires additional disambiguation. If this band is not the primary topic of the term "The Rain" (overtop of all other uses, not just the other band), then it still requires additional disambiguation because it is not a primary topic, so in all cases it can never reside at "The Rain (band)", which should always point to the disambiguation page. -- 70.51.46.39 (talk) 06:20, 29 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]
