- Not sure what to do here. There's still ambiguity over whether the name's been officially retired, but reliable sources have dropped the name. (Also, there's an implicit move of Valparaiso Crusaders to Valparaiso University athletics, et cetera. Not sure why this request was on the men's basketball talk page rather than the page for the athletics program as a whole.) O.N.R. (talk) 04:31, 16 February 2021 (UTC)
- Oppose. No evidence provided that this rebadging is in common use, and it seems unlikely to be the case this soon. However redirects from the official names should all exist (only one of them does currently). Andrewa (talk) 06:57, 23 February 2021 (UTC)
- Lean support - the university has not been crystal clear as to the timeline of this change, and whether or not it has happened already. What I've read says that they will be dropping the nickname, and there is no mention of anything being "effective immediately" or the like. They have, however, made it clear that the "Crusaders" nickname is being dropped, and it is nowhere to be found on Valpo's athletics home page, which sways me towards supporting the moves. - That website appears to be a primary source and of little if any relevance. The intention, timing and even the decision that the "Crusaders" nickname is being dropped is of similarly little relevance. A move will only be justified if and when reliable secondary sources start to use the new names. That's what the article naming policy says. Andrewa (talk) 02:07, 24 February 2021 (UTC)
- Weak support per nom.--Ortizesp (talk) 02:41, 24 February 2021 (UTC)
- Comment: The school's game notes say that a mascot name should not be used. See the bottom left corner on page 1 here: [1]. Fbdave (talk) 04:31, 28 February 2021 (UTC)
- Support. I don't know the history of when/if the university chose to drop the "Crusaders" name, but it seems clear from a look through recent sources that it is not in use any more, so per WP:NAMECHANGES there is no reason to stick with an older name that isn't the WP:COMMONNAME any more. — Amakuru (talk) 14:17, 11 March 2021 (UTC)
- Support, until the university chooses an appropriate athletics name. Per ESPN (Feb 11), a new university president has taken office, and the issue seems to be high on his list. Otherwise, wait on a new name. Wyliepedia @ 07:38, 13 March 2021 (UTC)

[edit]- Any additional comments:
This is likely (but not certain) to come up again in the fullness of time. When it does, consult wp:AT, look for and cite relevant secondary sources, and note also WP:NAMECHANGES. Andrewa (talk) 07:02, 23 February 2021 (UTC)

Valparaiso Crusaders men's basketball → Valparaiso University men's basketball – Result of previous discussion was to move the article to Valparaiso University men's basketball. Fbdave (talk) 14:06, 30 May 2021 (UTC)
- Speedy move per previous RM. This should have been proposed at WP:RMT. 162 etc. (talk) 15:36, 30 May 2021 (UTC)
- Speedy move. The article should not have been moved without another RM discussion. Rreagan007 (talk) 19:01, 30 May 2021 (UTC)
