Orihuela removal of Valencian local name

[edit]

Hi, I'm sorry to be doing this, I'm not totally convinced of the value of Valencian/Catalan names in all cases, but I think this diff needs to be discussed on Talk page. In ictu oculi (talk) 07:35, 12 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I'm afraid I went back and made a couple of other reversions Tudela, Navarre, ‎Pasqual Maragall i Mira, Minorca, .. please don't take it personally, you seem to be a very valuable contributor, and these are only a small number of edits, but in each case not convinced that the removal of Catalan, Basque etc should proceed without at the very least a Talk page mention first. I personally am not bothered, but I can't help thinking some other editors might be. Cheers. Might just want to slow down a bit on this area, that's all. I also, after having checked Lonely Planet and other sources, have to register lack of support for the two RMs. Again please don't take it personally, it's an issue of the sources, that's all. Cheers :) In ictu oculi (talk) 07:47, 12 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I understand why you did it. I just thought it was slightly misleading to have the Valencian and Basque names in areas where they aren't spoken or official. --Cymru123 (talk) 10:49, 12 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
They are actually semi-official in all of Navarre, all of Valencia aren't they? But fine if not, if you're 100% certain then feel free to note that on the Talk pages and do the edit again. I won't revert a second time, just wanted to be clear - given that this is a tender area. Cheers. In ictu oculi (talk) 11:05, 12 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Basque is only official in the Basque-speaking regions of Navarre (mainly in the North). In Valencia Valencian is official throughout, but the Ley de uso y enseñanza del valenciano gives areas where Spanish is traditionally spoke certain opt-outs on the use of Valencian --Cymru123 (talk) 13:33, 12 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Euskal Herria Bildu, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Sovereigntism (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

The article Cymricisation has been proposed for deletion. The proposed-deletion notice added to the article should explain why.

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Notification of proposal to ban Spanish articles from Did You Know?

[edit]

Dear WikiProject Spain member,

There is currently a proposal to ban articles concerning a large area of southern Andalusia from appearing on the Main Page of Wikipedia in the Did you know? section. This would affect a significant number of articles within the scope of WikiProject Spain. If you have a view on this proposal, please see Wikipedia talk:Did you know/Gibraltar-related DYKs‎#Proposal for one-year moratorium on Gibraltarpedia DYKs. In addition, you may have a view on an alternative proposal to lift restrictions on Gibraltar-related articles on DYK - please see Wikipedia talk:Did you know/Gibraltar-related DYKs#Proposal for lifting the restrictions on Gibraltar-related DYKs. I noticed that you prodded some articles about the peoples of Spain, a couple of which have no reliable citations. However, I am deprodding this one, becuase it appears to be notable, and you may have prodded it in error. Also, deletion of this one is likely to be controversial. Bearian (talk) 18:44, 17 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I did the same with Leonese people. Please send those to WP:AfD if you wish. Bearian (talk) 18:45, 17 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Europe 10,000 Challenge invite

[edit]

Hi. The Wikipedia:WikiProject Europe/The 10,000 Challenge has recently started, based on the UK/Ireland Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge. The idea is not to record every minor edit, but to create a momentum to motivate editors to produce good content improvements and creations and inspire people to work on more countries than they might otherwise work on. There's also the possibility of establishing smaller country or regional challenges for places like Germany, Italy, the Benelux countries, Iberian Peninsula, Romania, Slovenia etc, much like Wikipedia:The 1000 Challenge (Nordic). For this to really work we need diversity and exciting content and editors from a broad range of countries regularly contributing. If you would like to see masses of articles being improved for Europe and your specialist country like Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The Africa Destubathon, sign up today and once the challenge starts a contest can be organized. This is a way we can target every country of Europe, and steadily vastly improve the encyclopedia. We need numbers to make this work so consider signing up as a participant and also sign under any country sub challenge on the page that you might contribute to! Thank you. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 02:59, 6 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

New 10,000 Challenge for Canada

[edit]

Hi, Wikipedia:WikiProject Canada/The 10,000 Challenge is up and running based on Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge for the UK which has currently produced over 2300 article improvements and creations. If you'd like to see large scale quality improvements happening for Canada like The Africa Destubathon, which has produced over 1600 articles in 5 weeks, sign up on the page. The idea will be an ongoing national editathon/challenge for Canada but fuelled by a contest such as The North America Destubathon to really get articles on every province and subject mass improved. I would like some support from Canadian wikipedians here to get the Challenge off to a start with some articles to make doing a Destubathon worthwhile! Cheers. --MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 01:55, 22 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
