Inappropriate categorization

[edit]

Please read WP:DRAFTNOCAT. There is a good reason for that and once your article is accepted (see no reason it shouldn't be) it can be properly categorized. You know what you are doing. Start as a Draft: article by all means, but, when you are ready, assuming it to be of this standard, simply go ahead and migrate it to main name space. There is no need for the Articles for Creation banners and approval scheme for your work.

I start all articles I write in my own user space and them over them when I am ready. Fiddle Faddle 21:28, 9 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I have some further advice for you

[edit]

Actually, "father advice"

When creating articles, know when to let go. I don't mean you should stop adding useful information, but know when to be the article's father, not its mother. It has to run free and scrape its knees, not be wrapped in soft towels. So be a father, not a mother, and step away from every article you create as soon as you deem it to be capable of surviving a deletion discussion. You will be amazed how some will catch people's imagination and they will improve them beyond your wildest dreams, and others will seem to languish for years unedited by a single other editor.

As with all advice, feel perfectly free to disregard it, but examine it closely before deciding. Fiddle Faddle 21:49, 10 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Where we have common names...

[edit]

... we use disambiguation pages to differentiate between the articles on Wikipedia. George Fried, currently, is th only gentleman with a WP article, so, by convention, his will take precedence, and all the others will be names with some sort of qualifier in parentheses after them, eg George Fried (acrobat), who may or may not exist. Ideally, the editor creating probably the third George Fried article will create George Fried (disambiguation), which will list all the folk so named.

There's more to learn than you can shake a stick at, and that is fine, because there is always someone who will solve the problem if you get it wrong. We expect folk to get it wrong. It;s the getting of it wrong in the same manner twice that makes folk wonder, not the first time ,

All successful editors here have made enormous errors at the start. You've not even scratched the surface of the error lake!! Just keep on enjpying editing Fiddle Faddle 07:48, 20 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:JackSilverBoxer1.png. You don't seem to have indicated the license status of the image. Wikipedia uses a set of image copyright tags to indicate this information.

A tag has been placed on File:JackSilverBoxer1.png requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the image is an unused redundant copy (all pixels the same or scaled down) of an image in the same file format, which is on Wikipedia (not on Commons), and all inward links have been updated.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Non-free rationale for File:JackThompson.JPG

[edit]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:JackThompson.JPG. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under non-free content criteria, but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia is acceptable. Please go to the file description page, and edit it to include a non-free rationale.

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified the non-free rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Stefan2 (talk) 19:55, 10 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I am deleting this image. The rationale for use in the article Jack Silver (boxer) is not adequate. It fails our non-free content requirements because there's no contextual significance. Seeing an image of a fighter he met in a boxing match does not increase our understanding of the article topic (Jack Silver), so it fails NFCC #8. Please read the description carefully. The picture is the most critical photo in the article, as it identifies the boxer Jack Silver. It is from 1925, according to the book from which it was taken. Of course the book was published after 1923, but it states specifically the image was created in 1925 at the latest.

The image is the only identifying photo of the boxer i have been able to locate. It is historically significant as it illustrates the article for EDUCATIONAL purposes, and it is holds a critical place in the article. It illustrates the existence of Silver as a boxer. It is also nearly public domain anyway as the book indicates it was taken around 1925, only 2 years from being fully public domain anyway. It is also cropped from the original picture, and is used SOLELY to identify Jack Silver to the reader. Please consider keeping it. Thank-you The origial picture was owned by Jack Silver according to the caption. He is deceased. Please consider keeping the image. I have also searched the library of congress for LOC public domain copies and found none. Thank-you.

Disputed non-free use rationale for File:BainAbie.jpg

[edit]

Thank you for uploading File:BainAbie.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this file on Wikipedia may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the file description page and adding or clarifying the reason why the file qualifies under this policy. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your file is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a non-free use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for files used under the non-free content policy require both a copyright tag and a non-free use rationale.

If it is determined that the file does not qualify under the non-free content policy, it might be deleted by an administrator within a few days in accordance with our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you. Stefan2 (talk) 22:22, 10 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Moving from Draft

[edit]

Just in case you don't already know - the best way is to use the move function when shifting an article from Draft to Article space. That keeps the history intact. The move function can be found under More in the Top Right corner of the page. I would also suggest putting in Project Tags on the Talk page to make sure the article is properly integrated.Peter Rehse (talk) 19:21, 11 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Answer from my talk page

[edit]

You must excuse wikipedia - there are guidelines that are open to interpretation, some are acted upon, and some are not. Up-loading pictures is subject to this and I have never quite understood the ins and outs of the process. This is the bane of multi-contributor wikis with no single czar. Wish I coulde be more helpful.

With regard to notability and your articles in general I will say that personally I like your contributions. Well written, referenced and interesting subjects. However, for wikipedia the main arbitrator of notability is the WP:GNG with the various guidelines such as WP:NBOX designed not as a hard and fast rule but to help define what is likely to be notable. So you could have boxers which don't meet WP:NBOX but have more than enough reliable third party coverage to meet WP:GNG and they should be kept (this may be debated in AfD) and conversely boxers who meet WP:NBOX but without much in the way of coverage being kept on the assumption that more is out there. With all your articles so far, even the once who don't strictly meet WP:NBOX I think a good effort has been made to supply the needed references. I hope this helps.Peter Rehse (talk) 20:35, 11 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Welcome to Wikipedia, and thank you for your contributions. Although everyone is welcome to contribute constructively to the encyclopedia, please note that there is a Manual of Style that should be followed to maintain a consistent, encyclopedic appearance. Deviating from this style, as you did in Abie Bain, disturbs uniformity among articles and may cause readability or accessibility problems. Please take a look at the welcome page to learn more about contributing to this encyclopedia. Thank you. Cmr08 (talk) 01:45, 12 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Please do not use styles that are unusual, inappropriate or difficult to understand in articles, as you did in Sid Terris. There is a Manual of Style, and edits should not deliberately go against it without special reason. Thank you. Cmr08 (talk) 02:01, 14 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Dcw2003, I'm not sure why you refuse to acknowledge edits I make to your articles or just ignore any attempts to explain to you that Wikipedia has a manual of style that articles follow. It's only a simple policy, WP:HEAD states that headers follow sentence case not title case, so only the first word and any proper nouns begin with capital letters. Look around at other articles if you don't understand what I mean, or maybe read the policy so you know what it says. I have already left two low-level warnings because often times newer editors don't know about policy before making the edits, but I have also mentioned to you over-and-over again in edit summarys what the policy is and you keep changing back to incorrect style. Just because you create an article doesn't mean you own the article and can have it appear anyway you want. Any other editor can edit the articles you create. I really don't want to add other warnings because I don't want to cause problems for you because you have created some very good, well re-searched articles, and I want to see you create more of them. That's why I am leaving you this message, to try and reach out to you in the hopes you will work together with other editors like me who are only trying to follow policy when editing. Other editors have also fixed headers in your articles, so that should tell you there must be something to this. If you haven't read the policy, please do so, and if you don't understand something, all you have to do is ask me. I'm only trying to work with you, not against you which is how you make it seem when you ignore editors wanting to help. Cmr08 (talk) 21:22, 17 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

dcw2003 I am rather certain you did not specifically state that headers follow sentence case. This is unusual as I have worked as a professional writer for many years, and have never seen this convention. I was not trying to ignore you. I would appreciate it if you would be more patient in your reprimands, and more specific. Thank-you for your interest. I was completely unaware of this convention, and you did not specifically mention it in any of your comments. Thank-you for your words of praise. I can only say you may need to more specific in your critiques.

Thank-you

Actually there were no reprimands or criticisms, it was just attempts by another editor to inform you of Wikipedia's manual of style. The reason it seemed like you were ignoring me was because I had fixed the headers in numerous articles and cited policy in the edit summary but you kept adding them in all caps. Also, I am rather certain that I did specifically state that headers follow sentence case, and can show proof. You must have just missed it. In this edit[1] to Abie Bain, I left a link to the policy and told you in edit summary what the policy was. In Sid Terris article as well with this edit [2], other edits I made I pointed out the WP:HEAD policy, and in others I left an edit summary explaining my changes by stating that only the first word and proper nouns begin with capitals. It took two low-level warnings, numerous reverts and edit summarys and finally a long note explaining my edits to get you attention. Maybe I should have left the note at first and skipped the warnings, but the warning are not a big deal and not really all that much of a warning, there really just messages to let an editor there might be a problem and there usually enough to get the editors attention. Now, higher level warnings can cause problems and even lead in some cases to blocks which is why I left the note rather than keep warning. The last thing I wanted was to cause problems for you because as I stated earlier, your articles are very good and want to see you continue here. I came across Jack Silver by chance, which is why I checked for other articles to read them but when I see anything that needs to be touched up, I do it. It's not meant as criticism, and most of the time it's just mistakes the editor doesn't even know they made. Other editors will also do this. Trust me when I say this, compared to the manual of style I have to fix on a lot of other articles, you have nothing to worry about. If there is ever anything you need help with, or other problems you come across, I have no problem helping you out. Just leave a message on my talk page, and I look forward to working with you here and to read your future articles. Cmr08 (talk) 23:35, 18 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

The third was not a warning, it was a message trying to explain manual of style to you, where I even stated I was leaving the message because I did not want to leave a third warning. By leaving the warnings, I was doing what I am supposed to be doing. I left the level-one warning, when you continued, I left the level-two warning. The wording is from templates where each level gets a little stronger in tone. The list of warning templates can be found at WP:WARNING. If you find the wording vague, hard to understand, or negative in nature, I'm sorry but sending the template messages is the normal way to let newer editors know about policy. You can always go to the appropriate noticeboard and make your case there, or open up a report on me and see what happens. I doubt much since I don't believe I have done anything wrong. You can also go to the help page, and there are ways there to ask questions of other editors and get advice on editing. However, the best thing may be for you to just remove the warnings from your talk page as if they were never left there, and for me to refrain from copyediting any of the articles you wrote. Will you agree with me on this? That way the problem is solved. Cmr08 (talk) 00:29, 22 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

File source problem with File:SollySeeman2.jpg

[edit]

Thank you for uploading File:SollySeeman2.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, please add a link to the page from which it was taken, together with a brief restatement of the website's terms of use of its content. If the original copyright holder is a party unaffiliated with the website, that author should also be credited. Please add this information by editing the image description page.

If the necessary information is not added within the next days, the image will be deleted. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem.

Please refer to the image use policy to learn what images you can or cannot upload on Wikipedia. Please also check any other files you have uploaded to make sure they are correctly tagged. Here is a list of your uploads. If you have any questions or are in need of assistance please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Expired copyrights

You say "it is more than likely the original COPYRIGHT EXPIRED AND WAS NOT RENEWED" which says to me you don't really know if it was renewed or not. That is not good enough. License tagging for File:HarryLewis.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:HarryLewis.jpg. You don't seem to have indicated the license status of the image. Wikipedia uses a set of image copyright tags to indicate this information.

To add a tag to the image, select the appropriate tag from this list, click on this link, then click "Edit this page" and add the tag to the image's description. If there doesn't seem to be a suitable tag, the image is probably not appropriate for use on Wikipedia. For help in choosing the correct tag, or for any other questions, leave a message on Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. Thank you for your cooperation. --ImageTaggingBot (talk) 18:06, 15 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@Dcw2003: I've fixed the issue by adding a {{PD-US-1923}} license tag per your text-based license statement. In the future, to avoid the ire of the bot and comply with the image use policy, you'll need to pick a machine-readable image license tag (directory of tags here) when you upload files, in addition to explaining the license status in words. Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. File:Bloom Phil boxer.jpg needs authorship information

[edit]
Dear uploader:

The media file you uploaded as File:Bloom Phil boxer.jpg appears to be missing information as to its authorship (and or source), or if you did provide such information, it is confusing for others trying to make use of the image.

It would be appreciated if you would consider updating the file description page, to make the authorship of the media clearer.

Although some images may not need author information in obvious cases, (such where an applicable source is provided), authorship information aids users of the image, and helps ensure that appropriate credit is given (a requirement of some licenses).

  • If you created this media yourself, please consider explicitly including your user name, for which: {{subst:usernameexpand|Dcw2003}} will produce an appropriate expansion,
    or use the {{own}} template.
If you have any questions please see Help:File page. Thank you. Salavat (talk) 05:38, 28 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Replaceable fair use File:Jamesrisden.jpeg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Jamesrisden.jpeg. I noticed that this file is being used under a claim of fair use. However, I think that the way it is being used fails the first non-free content criterion. This criterion states that files used under claims of fair use may have no free equivalent; in other words, if the file could be adequately covered by a freely-licensed file or by text alone, then it may not be used on Wikipedia. If you believe this file is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the file description page and add the text {{di-replaceable fair use disputed|<your reason>}} below the original replaceable fair use template, replacing <your reason> with a short explanation of why the file is not replaceable.
  2. On the file discussion page, write a full explanation of why you believe the file is not replaceable.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media item by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by creating new media yourself (for example, by taking your own photograph of the subject).

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these media fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per the non-free content policy. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Steel1943 (talk) 20:17, 12 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

File permission problem with File:Stanwass.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Stanwass.jpg. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file has agreed to release it under the given license.

If you are the copyright holder for this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. You may wish to read Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Whpq (talk) 18:18, 14 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

The article Venice Borkhorsor has been proposed for deletion because it appears to have no references. Under Wikipedia policy, this biography of a living person will be deleted unless it has at least one reference to a reliable source that directly supports material in the article.

If you created the article, please don't be offended. Instead, consider improving the article. For help on inserting references, see Referencing for beginners, or ask at the help desk. Once you have provided at least one reliable source, you may remove the {{prod blp}} tag. Please do not remove the tag unless the article is sourced. If you cannot provide such a source within seven days, the article may be deleted, but you can request that it be undeleted when you are ready to add one. — Omni Flames (talk contribs) 22:48, 14 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

To add a tag to the image, select the appropriate tag from this list, click on this link, then click "Edit this page" and add the tag to the image's description. If there doesn't seem to be a suitable tag, the image is probably not appropriate for use on Wikipedia. Thank you for uploading File:Martin.Eddieboxer.jpg. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright and licensing status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can verify that it has an acceptable license status and a verifiable source. Please add this information by editing the image description page. You may refer to the image use policy to learn what files you can or cannot upload on Wikipedia. The page on copyright tags may help you to find the correct tag to use for your file. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem.

Need History Merged for New Article, Jimmy Walsh (American Boxer)

[edit]

Information icon Hi, and thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. It appears that you tried to give Draft:Jimmy Walsh (American boxer) a different title by copying its content and pasting either the same content, or an edited version of it, into Jimmy Walsh (American boxer). This is known as a "cut-and-paste move", and it is undesirable because it splits the page history, which is legally required for attribution. Instead, the software used by Wikipedia has a feature that allows pages to be moved to a new title together with their edit history.

In most cases, once your account is four days old and has ten edits, you should be able to move an article yourself using the "Move" tab at the top of the page (the tab may be hidden in a dropdown menu for you). This both preserves the page history intact and automatically creates a redirect from the old title to the new. If you cannot perform a particular page move yourself this way (e.g. because a page already exists at the target title), please follow the instructions at requested moves to have it moved by someone else. Also, if there are any other pages that you moved by copying and pasting, even if it was a long time ago, please list them at Wikipedia:Requests for history merge. Thank you. Hi there, when editing an article that is already using a set date format, please stick with that format instead of changing to one you prefer. The dmy template has been at the top of Young Griffo since July 2013, so that's the format you should be using when adding to that particular article. I have fixed all the date formats to day-month-year format, so there is nothing to worry about, just use that date format when adding further content to that article. Cmr08 (talk) 02:43, 16 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

==Reply for Young Griffo== dcw2003 Sorry Cmr08, but before reading your note, I changed the format back to US date format. Griffo lived the great majority of his life in the United States, and died there, and was a US citizen. (From age 22 to 56) The US uses the date format in the document as it stands now. I'm sorry to waste your time and apologize. I appreciate your note, and wish I'd read it in time. If you keep the tag out of the document at the top that switches it to European date format, of course it should remain in US date format. Feel free to change it back if I have violated some Wiki rules, of course, but I'd hate to take more of your time. Again, I apologize for the change. I've always greatly appreciated your time and attentions.

The general rule when it comes to dates is that we don't change to another format if an article is already following a certain date format, but you have explained why you made the changes, so I will not revert. However, it should be pointed out that the article existed for almost 8 years and was tagged for 3 years before you ever edited the article, so there are editors who do pay attention to this. You probably didn't notice when you were editing Torpedo Billy Murphy, but the same thing occurred. You removed the tags and used a different date format and another editor came along right away and fixed template damage with this edit. [3] So, it's still possible and maybe even probable that another editor will come along and revert your edit, but like I said, I understand why you made the change so I won't revert. Also, even after your edit, I see a couple of dates still in the other format, so you might want to check this so they are all in the same format. Cmr08 (talk) 11:28, 17 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]
The date template you removed has been re-added by another editor. If you have a problem with the change, then take it up with that editor, rather than changing back. Cmr08 (talk) 02:37, 20 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Service Award

and is entitled to display this Service Badge.

Hi Dcw2003, since you haven't added or been given a service award yet, I will give it to you. There are many different levels of these awards (19 I believe) and you move up levels as you meet certain requirements (edits / time served). Right now you are at level 5 (4,000 edits / 1 year of service). You have already exceeded the edit requirement for the next level (6,000), so in 3 months, you can display level 6. These service awards are awards that we can also give ourselves, so when you reach the next level, you can go ahead and change the template yourself to display the higher level. You can check out WP:Service awards where this is all explained. Cmr08 (talk) 06:54, 7 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Dcw2003, you can write about pretty much anything, as long as the subject is notable enough for an article. You don't even have to create the articles, if there are other topics you are interested in, you could always find stub articles created by someone else and expand them into more detailed articles. I'm sure you would have no problem finding articles to edit in the areas you mentioned on my talk page. Cmr08 (talk) 01:56, 8 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Frankie Klick

[edit]

Hi Dcw2003, I'm not really sure what to do here. I see the Frankie Klick (boxer) article, and the Frankie Klick article which you redirected, but I'm not sure what you mean by German language article. Are you referring to an article on the German Wikipedia or did someone add an article on this Wikipedia but wrote it in German? I'm not seeing any other Frankie Klick on the English Wikipedia, so a disambiguation page would not be needed. If this is the case, then the article you wrote would not need the (boxer) disambiguation, just the name. We only disambiguate pages if there is another article with the same name. All I get when I try to fix this is a message that says I don't have permission to move because another article with the name exists, and it can't be done manually because it would mess up the article history. The best thing to do is go to Wikipedia:Requested moves and see if an administrator can help. Cmr08 (talk) 21:09, 19 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Ok, you meant if I went to google and searched? I now see what you mean, but it doesn't matter what the titles are in other Wikipedia's, they are different websites, we are only concerned with the English Wikipedia. A disambiguation page on the English Wikipedia only lists the articles on this Wikipedia. Further to your original message, the problem with the disambiguation (boxer) can probably be easily fixed, but like I said above, it's not possible for me to do that, you will need to ask an administrator on the page Wikipedia:Requested moves.
By the way, thanks to the barnstar. Cmr08 (talk) 22:51, 19 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Service awards.table

[edit]

Hi Dcw2003, I just reverted these edits you made on the service awards/table page as unexplained. You removed the requirements and some of the badges for the experienced editor award level. Were you really trying to remove these or was it just a mistake? If it was a mistake, don't worry it's fixed, if it wasn't a mistake, you'll have to explain the reason. Cmr08 (talk) 09:54, 24 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

There's no big deal when you make a mistake. All you have to do is click on "undo" next to the edit on the history page and it will take you to the edit window where you just click "save" like you do when saving your other edits. Doing this reverts the edit. Cmr08 (talk) 00:13, 25 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Replaceable fair use File:EricLichtblau.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:EricLichtblau.jpg.

Non-free rationale for File:EricLichtblau.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:EricLichtblau.jpg.

File:Patsy Sweeney.jpg needs authorship information

[edit]
Dear uploader:

The media file you uploaded as File:Patsy Sweeney.jpg appears to be missing information as to one (or more) of the following :

  1. The author or creators of the work, (including information as to the author's lifespan).
  2. Where and how this particular version was obtained.
  3. When the work was created,

If you did provide such information, it is currently confusing for others trying to make use of the image.

Please also add authorship and sourcing to other files you created or uplopaded. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log.

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Billy Papke, you added links pointing to the disambiguation pages Jim Sullivan, Max Baer and Ed Williams (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

It's OK to remove this message. Also, to stop receiving these messages, follow these opt-out instructions. Thanks, DPL bot (talk) 20:12, 7 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I'm RonBot, a script that checks new non-free file uploads. I have found that the subject image that you recently uploaded was more than 5% in excess of the Non-free content guideline size of 100,000 pixels. I have tagged the image for a standard reduction, which (for jpg/gif/png/svg files) normally happens within a day. Please check the reduced image, and make sure that the image is not excessively corrupted. Other files will be added to Category:Wikipedia non-free file size reduction requests for manual processing. There is a full seven-day period before the original oversized image will be hidden; during that time you might want to consider editing the original image yourself (perhaps an initial crop to allow a smaller reduction or none at all). A formula for calculation the desired size can be found at WP:Image resolution, along with instructions on how to tag the image in the rare cases that it requires an oversized image (typically about 0.2% of non-free uploads are tagged as necessarily oversized). Please contact the bot owner if you have any questions, or you can ask them at Wikipedia talk:Non-free content. RonBot (talk) 17:13, 15 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on File:Artie Levine.jpeg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the image is an unused duplicate or lower-quality copy of another file on Wikipedia having the same file format, and all inward links have been updated.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. — JJMC89(T·C) 21:05, 6 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

PT-109 and PT-59

I appreciate the detail you added as to Kennedy's wartime serve in his main article. If you have time, have a look at Motor Torpedo Boat PT-109 and Motor Torpedo Boat PT-59. I have worked on both over the years to improve them and to add WP:RS cites. As with many articles, they can use some additional work. Kierzek (talk) 13:45, 31 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

px values at PT-109

[edit]

Hello. Thank you for your diligent work on Motor Torpedo Boat PT-109. I've removed your px values from thumbnails twice, here andhere, with a clear edit summary and a link to the applicable policy in both cases. And yet you're still adding new px values, eg here. Have you not paid enough attention to the page history to see my corrections? Can I do anything to help you understand the use of |upright= or the need for its use? ―Mandruss  21:47, 15 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for the response. I've changed all the px values again. I'll emphasize that edit summaries are an important part of communication between editors (nobody works in isolation here), so monitoring the page history is part of the necessary routine for experienced editors. It's the first thing I do when I start a new "day" at an article where I've been active—I check to see what's been done while I was away, with the option to view individual edits using the "prev" links at the left edge.
Also, most editors respond to a user talk post under it, rather than going to the other user's talk page; that way discussions are not fragmented. An editor posting here would generally be expected to watch the page for awhile for your response. If there's any doubt, you can use {{Reply to}} (or any of its popular aliases including "ping") within your reply to send them a notification of it.
Happy editing! ―Mandruss  22:58, 15 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on File:Motor Patrol Boat 159 as gunboat design.jpeg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F9 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the file appears to be a blatant copyright infringement. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images taken from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

If the image belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use it — which means allowing other people to use it for any reason — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. The same holds if you are not the owner but have their permission. If you are not the owner and do not have permission, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission for how you may obtain it. You might want to look at Wikipedia's copyright policy for more details, or ask a question here.
