June 2024[edit]

Information icon Hello, I'm Myrealnamm. I noticed that you added or changed content in an article, Sandra Beltrán (actress), but you didn't provide a reliable source. It's been removed and archived in the page history for now, but if you'd like to include a citation and re-add it, please do so. You can have a look at referencing for beginners. If you think I made a mistake, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. Myrealnamm (💬pros · ✏️cons) 20:34, 5 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Good afternoon. I apologize for those mistakes. Could you teach me how to make an edition with a reference (if possible with an example edition that I have made)? I clarify that although my account is a year old just these weeks I have begun to make edits. I would very much appreciate your help in this regard. I await your response and I reiterate my apology for those incomplete editions, greetings. G14I63 (talk) 01:08, 29 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Referencing for beginners is a good place to start. For example, if you see that a website called example.com has someone's birthday on it, you could use citation templates to say something like "Joe Actor was born on January 1, 1970.<ref>{{cite web|url=https://www.example.com/birthday|last=Smith|first=Bob|work=[[Example.com]]|date=June 28, 2024|accessdate=June 28, 2024}}</ref>" The "ref" tags make up the citation. They tell people where you found this information.

The source you cite has to be what Wikipedia considers reliable. In general, reliable sources are stuff like reputable newspapers and magazines that have a history of fact checking, posting corrections, and have editorial control. Books from reputable publishers who engage in the same things are also typically reliable. Websites can be reliable, too, but there are a lot of random websites out there that purport to tell facts about celebrities. Most of them don't pass our criteria for reliability. This list of perennial sources has some thoughts on various sources from fellow Wikipedia editors.

The big thing is that content about living persons needs to be properly sourced. When we get this sort of thing wrong, it can impact the lives of real people. It's important to properly cite this kind of information and make sure the source is impeccable. That means no self-published blogs or user-generated content.
