JAF, please point to the section of WP:VG that clarifies the difference between ship dates and release dates. Also, unless you can provide a reliable source that specifically states the release date is 3/3/09, then the 3/2/09 date should stand.

The difference is all the press releases me, PastaPadre, etc got from 2K. I can't just post it because it's "original research". (rolling eyes). I'm seriously tired of Wikipedia. I've been dealing with video games for THIRTY years, and a published writer in the field for 15. Release Dates[edit]

I'm writing you this because your behavior has now become a violation of Wikipedia policies. Therefor this is your warning (from me) to stop. I'm also writing this with the future intent of having a simple reference to point moderators to in the event you still continue your unproductive edits across Wikipedia video games articles. This should help them make the decision to block you more easier. You may delete this from your talk page, but I'll still at least have the history link to it to provide.

You have been told by numerous people that are involved in the Video Game project that your interpretation of release dates for video games are incorrect. A good overview of the guidelines for release dates are stated here. Obviously you have yet to agree. Thus you have continued to go against what you have been told and have been editing articles about video games on Wikipedia that go against guidelines for the release dates and have been putting "in-store" release dates over "ship dates". In many cases you have been reverting the correct edits continually despite what you have been told. And example of this is found here. A brief look at your history of contributions shows you have also done this to many other video game articles in the past.

You have started, or partaken, in many argumentative discussions about the issue of release dates. Here is listed three of them:

In all three many different Wikipedia members, a majority of them a part of the Video Game Project, have informed you that your biased view of release dates is incorrect. Either way, you view fails to meet general consensus.

Consensus among a limited group of editors, at one place and time, cannot override community consensus on a wider scale. Source

You have very limited support for you views. As shown in that list of 3 discussions you have been a part of. Your view also goes against what WP:VG/DATE clearly states about release dates.

Your main support for your claim is your superior knowledge of how the Video Game Industry works because you have been a part of it for decades. This is irreverent. You can not cite your source as yourself. Many reliable sources such as IGN, 1UP, Gamestop, and many other gaming sites seem to agree with the view of the Video Game project on Wikipedia that release dates are the date it ships out to retailers. Almost all video game publishers are officially announce their release date as the date they ship it out. There are cases where the day its in the stores is the release date but these are very few and far between.

Take this for example:

Problems arise when editors see their own bias as neutral, and especially when they assume that any resistance to their edits is founded in bias towards an opposing point of view. The perception that “he who is not for me is against me” is contrary to Wikipedia’s assume good faith guideline: always allow for the possibility that you are indeed wrong, and remember that attributing motives to fellow editors is inconsiderate. Source

You need to allow yourself to accept you just are not correct on this issue, no matter how you see it.

Here is some examples of "problem editors" as stated here:

You find yourself repeating the same argument over and over again, without persuading people.

If your arguments are rejected, bring better arguments, don’t simply repeat the same ones. And most importantly, examine your argument carefully, in light of what others have said. It is true that people will only be convinced if they want to be, regardless of how good your argument may be, but that is not grounds for believing that your argument must be true. You must be willing to concede you may have been wrong. Take a good, long hard look at your argument from as detached and objective a point of view as you can possibly muster, and see if there really is a problem with it. If there isn't, it's best to leave the situation alone: they're not going to want to see it and you cannot force it. If there is a problem, however, then you should revise the argument, your case, or both.

Your citations back some of the facts you are adding, but do not explicitly support your interpretation or the inferences you draw.

The policy on original research expressly forbids novel syntheses of other sources.

Basically, as shown in those two last examples and more found here, you are what Wikipedia considers a tendentious editor.

Please take note of this section of that policy:

Editors who engage in this behavior generally fall into two categories: those who come to realize the problem their edits cause, recognize their own bias, and work productively with editors with opposing views to build a better encyclopedia – and, well, the rest. The rest often end up indefinitely blocked or, if they are otherwise productive editors with a blind spot on one particular area, they might be banned from certain articles or become subject to probation.

You are not agreeing with the general consensus of the Video Game project and continue to change the release dates of articles to match your biased view. As stated above, this is not acceptable. Being that, disregarding release dates, you are a productive editor, you could face being banned from editing certain articles or subject to probation if you continue.

Again, this is your official warning from me on this issue. If you continue, in order to protect the integrity of Wikipedia Video Game articles, you will be reported for violation of the WP:TE guidelines, which is a nutshell of WP:CON. I am, hopefully, going to be helping the Video Game project correct many video game articles across Wikipedia to reflect the correct release dates as confirmed by WP:VG/DATE and the Wikipedia Video Game Project. In the event this happens you should respect the decisions of the Video Game Project as these edits will conform to not only guidelines, but general consensus. Wikipedia needs conformity across video game articles on this issue. Otherwise we are doing a disservice to not only Wikipedia but also its readers. Since Wikipedia consensus and guidelines have been determined to be against your point-of-view on this issue, you should cease to put it in articles.

Wikis Take Manhattan[edit]

WHAT Wikis Take Manhattan is a scavenger hunt and free content photography contest aimed at illustrating Wikipedia and StreetsWiki articles covering sites and street features in Manhattan and across the five boroughs of New York City.

WHEN The hunt will take place Saturday, October 10th from 1:00pm to 6:30pm, followed by prizes and celebration.

WHO All Wikipedians and non-Wikipedians are invited to participate in team of up to three (no special knowledge is required at all, just a digital camera and a love of the city). Bring a friend (or two)!

REGISTER The proper place to register your team is here. It's also perfectly possible to register on the day of when you get there, but it will be slightly easier for us if you register beforehand.

OK...reading that blog post makes it sound like Wednesday was his birthday, as there are two references to that day of the week, with one of them him stating, "I learned my situation Wednesday.", which certainly sounds like it means the most recent Wednesday. Since the blog post is dated August 19th (actually updated which is not to definitive), which was a Thursday, the I would assume the Wednesday was August 18th. However, I was hoping that you had found a more specific reference in something like an obituary, such as "born on August 18, 1948 in Leroy Township, Ohio"? Wikimania 2012 bid, DC chapter & next meetup![edit]

At WikiXDC in January, User:Harej proposed that DC submit a bid to host Wikimania 2012. A bid and organizing committee is being formed and seeks additional volunteers to help. Please look at our bid page and sign up if you want to help out. You can also signup for the bid team's email list.

Featured article contest

This week, our first multilingual featured article contest was announced. We are aiming to improve the articles on the Declaration of Independence, Constitution, or Bill of Rights to featured or good status in English and other languages. Prizes for winners will be a gift package from the National Archives including a book of your choice or a tote bag, and other swag, plus, of course, a special barnstar.

August 6 backstage pass

Plans are in the works for a meetup and backstage pass event at the National Archives II facility in College Park, MD. There will be a regular social meetup, a discussion with Dominic about WP:NARA, a tour of the building by NARA staff, and then time for a scanathon and editathon in the research rooms and library until the building closes at 5 pm. Keep your schedules open!

Archival Recovery Team

The National Archives' Archival Recovery Team (ART) is a team of law enforcement agents and archivists who investigate NARA's lost and stolen documents. They have received media attention ([1], [2], [3], [4], [5], [6], [7], [8]) and would like to request an article be written for the team, if Wikipedians deem it notable. It is hoped that making more information about the group available on Wikipedia will increase public awareness of the documents they are seeking to recover.

Today's Document challenge

The Today's Document challenge is an opportunity for Wikipedians to get their work related to National Archives holdings spotlighted on Archives.gov and the National Archives' tumblr. Each day the National Archives selects a document related to the day's date to showcase. The goal is to get articles related to the selected documents on the main page in ""Did You Know...?" the same day that the National Archives features the document. Alternatively, other appropriate articles related to National Archives holdings not already selected will be used for new documents of the day by NARA staff and posted to their tumblr.

Wikisource

WP:NARA has a sister WikiProject on Wikisource, WS:NARA. On Wikisource, editors transcribe, proofread, and arrange documents. This helps to make little-known documents more discoverable, or well-known documents more searchable, and improves accessibility. See the files being worked on. If you are new to Wikisource and would like to participate, there are experienced Wikisourcerors willing to be mentors.

Major image contribution The National Archives has hundreds of thousands of digitized documents in its holdings. We are working on a bulk upload to Commons of one particular cache of about 123,000 TIFF master files in the next few days! Once uploaded, these will require a massive community effort to help categorize the files on Commons and add them to articles on Wikipedia or transcribe them on Wikisource.	Inclusion in the online catalog We are currently working on a system for including links to pages on Wikimedia projects in the National Archives online catalog. The Wikimedia projects are hosting an increasing number of transcriptions of National Archives documents and high-quality image and video files that are not available through NARA's own site. Links to these Wikimedia pages in the documents' actual catalog records will benefit the end user by providing them access to further resources about the documents, and they will also demonstrate the National Archives commitment to supporting Wikimedians' efforts.
