Singaporean bloggers?[edit]

Dear Sir,

I have seen that you're a "reference person" for the Singaporean community here. I'd like to ask you if, from any cultural point of view, all these apparently irrelevant blogger's pages are somehow justified, or if they should be marked for deletion.

Thank you in advance, MaeseLeon 23:22, 5 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

  • Thank you very much for your answer. Actually I discovered this blogger thing through a Singaporean one, then noticed there're also many more from other countries. I'm afraid my problem is that I disagree about the true notability of almost all them -of every country, but was aware of the Singaporean first.  :) I mean, what do you think about the encyclopedic value of such people? Best regards, MaeseLeon 10:16, 6 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
    • I don't know what to tell you... I have been cited (and sometimes appeared) in my local media, both at a regional and national level, for reasons of scientific outreach and some political activity I had in the past, and I still don't feel like deserving my own page at Wikipedia -not even in the Spanish one. My contribution or influence on society hasn't been so important, from my point of view. That's because I'm surprised about this bloggers thing. Actually I'm not trying to start a "deletion movement", just wondering. Best regards, MaeseLeon 10:42, 6 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Dalek on FARC[edit]

Happy New Year, Terence!

Do you have any ideas on how to ensure that Dalek passes the FARC? I've done a substantial amount of citation work since it was put on FAR, but it seems that it's not satisfying the vocal objectors. I don't want to "stack the deck", but I honestly think the article is a good one and I'm at a bit of a loss as to what to do to improve it further. —Josiah Rowe (talkcontribs) 19:13, 31 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

JKD[edit]

Hello Terrence,

I am having a problem with a user over at Jeet Kune Do actually really just an IP number rather than a user. He keeps adding a non legitimate instructor. I've added a paragraph on the "talk" page describing that articles should be cited and reference as much as possible and that wiki editors need to ensure the information is accurate so we don't become a rumor mill. Anyway he keeps adding a "Carter Hargrave" who I have deleted in the past. I've researched this guy and he is a sham who just wanted Dan Inosanto to promote him and claims to be a "Grand Master". No record of the guy before early 90's?? The user is 64.149.40.27. Is there a way of blocking this guy temp until a long term fix is implemented? Can you help?? Suggestions?? Thanks FrankWilliams 14:35, 3 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks![edit]

Hey there. I'd been meaning to start contributing to some of the more overlooked areas of Doctor Who info for a while, but I've been daunted by the quality of what already exists. So I'd like to thank you for tweaking my contributions to the article on the Nightmare of Black Island, transforming my rookie additions into professional contributions. I greatly appreciate it! —Steffan Alun

Orphaned fair use image (Image:Dw2005logo.png)[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Dw2005logo.png. I notice the 'image' page currently specifies that the image is unlicensed for use on Wikipedia and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. I need help from an admin[edit]

You are the only good admin that I trust, and I need help from an admin. Recently, I filled out a nomination for User:Val42, and User:Trödel said that I was not qualified to nominate. We got into a minor dispute over this, which started on Val42's talk page and Trödel moved it to our personal talk pages. Eventually I conceded that he had a valid point, and I conceded the argument, but he left me a comment after that that threatened both myself and Val42. He threatened to oppose Val42 simply because of our personal dispute, and he threatened to block me for trolling. I was not trolling by any stretch of the imagination. You can see the dispute on all three of our user pages in better depth. I'm scared that he is going to block me for an offense that I did not do and I need help. I don't want this to happen. If you can help in any way I would appreciate it.TheGreenFaerae 08:47, 7 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I just found out that he removed an addition to an article that was disputed and resolved some time ago. I believe this is a covert personal attack, as it was his first edit after threatening me, and he had no previous history on the page. the page in question is Chloe Sullivan. Doctor Who Review links[edit]

First of all, a friendly "=)" because I'm really not intending to sound pissy... But basically I saw a couple of people had added links to reviews on Who sites (including The Massacre (cold, cold grave etc. ;)) and maybe a couple of others that are, well, by me [This http://www.whoniverse.org/reviews/W.php] = [this http://counter-x.net/doctor_who/reviews/010305.html, etc.]), so I'm slightly confused to see my reviews bracketed as 'non-notable' when they've received good feedback and been good enough for Outpost Gallifrey back when I submitted some of them... I get that you can't just have every lunatic with a out-of-the-box Geocities page banging links in, and my intention wasn't to spam, merely just add some of the reviews I've done that weren't on OPG/Whoniverse. Apologies for any wrong-doing, and cheers for your time.

Enjoy your vacation, Tom Prankerd 11:16, 7 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

    • Cheers for your reply, makes sense :)

Fair-use image removed from your user page[edit]

Hello, Khaosworks. I've removed Image:Qmul.JPG from your user page, as it is a copyrighted, unlicensed image that is being used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. Unfortunately, by Wikipedia policies, no fair-use images can be used on user pages; please see the ninth item of the Wikipedia fair-use policy and Wikipedia:Removal of fair use images. This image has not been deleted from any articles. If you have any questions, please let me know. —Bkell (talk) 05:40, 26 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

WikiProject Doctor Who Award[edit]

The WikiProject Doctor Who Award
I hereby award Khaosworks with the WikiProject Doctor Who Award, for years of hard work maintaining and improving Doctor Who-related articles, and providing leadership in the WikiProject. —Josiah Rowe (talkcontribs) 03:06, 4 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

If anyone deserves this, it's you. I know that you haven't been very active on Wikipedia lately, and I hope this is just due to busyness in real life. But since this WikiProject award was approved, I knew that you needed to be among its first recipients. —Josiah Rowe (talkcontribs) 03:06, 4 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Actually, World of Warcraft is almost certainly a better use of your time than following the most recent sad Wikidrama... —Josiah Rowe (talkcontribs) 06:10, 4 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

An article by that name was deleted by a now retired admin and I was wondering if you would dump the article here please --SGCommand (talkcontribs) 13:01, 9 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I've placed a "{{prod}}" tag on Between the Lines (talk show), however I fully appreciate that you merely copied text placed elsewhere and weren't the original author. I've struggled to find any sources that link the talk show host to this title. Accordingly, I've prodded, but if you want to salvage this, I won't pursue to AfD. Mr chuzzlewit[edit]

I've got a slight suspicion that Mr chuzzlewit (talk · contribs) is violating the policy at WP:COI, as I suggested to him on his talkpage and at Talk:Doctor Who: Original Television Soundtrack. His edits and edit summaries seem to suggest that he either is Murray Gold (very unlikely) or else an agent or close friend. He has only edited two articles (the soundtrack and Murray's own article), and then only to remove certain sentences which he claims are against policy (while then refusing to cite the said policies).

One edit summary said that "MG's publishers will shortly be in contact with Wikipedia", and a note on his talkpage said that information about MG's parentage and religion "are considered intrusive, tendentious and unjust by the LIVING persons concerned"; the use of the present tense and the lack of a qualifier such as "probably" is rather suspicious.

What do you suggest I do? Thanks,--Rambutan (talk) 18:33, 19 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Unspecified source for Image:Jogrant2.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Jogrant2.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, then you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, then their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self-no-disclaimers}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{Non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 18:10, 13 April 2007 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. MECUtalk 18:10, 13 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Image:Peterpurves.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Peterpurves.jpg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{Replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or a similar) image under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that any fair use images which are replaceable by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Quentin X 12:27, 20 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:Ageofsteel.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Ageofsteel.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Image sizes[edit]

If you do decide to add fair use rationales for using these images, could you also address the problem of the excessively high quality of these non-free images? For instance Image:Theidiotslantern.jpg has been uploaded at 1023×584 pixels, which makes it very attractive to pirates. Please reduce the images to something like 250 pixels in width, upload the new versions over the odl, and have the high quality versions deleted. --Tony Sidaway 19:36, 8 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks[edit]

Thanks for completing that paperwork. I think you uploaded quite a few other images of scenes from Doctor Who and Torchwood episodes. Where they lack a fair use rationale, these need to be done, too. I'll probably list them on the wikiproject for help, but I'd greatly appreciate your participation. --Tony Sidaway 23:50, 8 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I'm starting to tag images lacking a rationale for deletion. I've looked at these:
The second one already seems to have been tagged for deletion as an orphan because it's not being used in any article. The other ones, I've just tagged with "no rationale" and they'll be deleted in seven days unless a rationale is written and the tag is removed. --Tony Sidaway 10:44, 10 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

If you have uploaded other images, please verify that you have provided source information for them as well.

Fair use rationale for Image:Hartnellconsole.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Hartnellconsole.jpg. Suggestions on how to do so can be found here.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Ilse@ 22:02, 7 June 2007 (UTC) [reply]

However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

Unspecified source for Image:Aldred2.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Aldred2.jpg.

If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL.

If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 10:12, 9 July 2007 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. MER-C 10:12, 9 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Please don't copy and paste content to rename pages--use the Move tab[edit]

This happened awhile ago, so maybe you have learned this since then, but the The Indestructible Man article page should have been Moved to The Indestructible Man (Doctor Who)--not transfered via cut&paste, then the redirect page converted to the disambiguation content. Using cut&paste separates the content from its edit history, which is a problem with the GFDL license, among other things, which admins then have to clean up. If you have done the same thing with other articles in the past you can report them at the Wikipedia:Cut and paste move repair holding pen. Also, it would have been simpler to just add dab headers on two articles The Indestructible Man for Dr Who, and Indestructible Man for the Lon Chaney flick. If you believe the image to be acceptable for fair use according to Wikipedia policy, please provide a rationale explaining as much, in accordance with the fair use rationale guideline, on the image description page. Please also consider using {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. Thank you. Dr Who Planet of Evil[edit]

You deleted valid material relating to the DVD release of this Dr Who serial. Information relating to a 'making of' documentary and commentary recording about the serial 'Planet of Evil' should clearly have a place on the Wikipedia page. Please do not delete such material in the future. Regards, Ed Stradling (DVD producer for BBC & 2|entertain).

If material related to the Target novel is considered relevant to the Planet of Evil page, it is absurd to suggest that a documentary covering the making of the serial is not relevant enough to be mentioned. Please do not be difficult on this. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.111.223.190 (talk) 13:12, 17 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Brief torch template[edit]

Hey - I've been cleaning up the external links for the Doctor Who episode articles. I had created a bunch of new templates to use for individual episodes, which would use quotation marks instead of italics. Since then, I've learned a bit more template syntax, and today I went back and instead added a parameter for quotation marks to the original templates, then went and changed all the pages using my templates to use the originals, and nominated mine for speedy deletion. Anyway, while I was at it, I added parameters to {{Brief}} so that it can be used for Torchwood and The Sarah Jane Adventures, and changed the Torchwood episode pages to use the original template. Since you created {{Brief torch}}, I wanted to check in before nominating it for deletion. Are you cool with that? My goal is to cut down the total number of templates we're using. Thanks. --Brian Olsen 16:40, 19 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free media (Image:Changlee.jpg)[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Changlee.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BetacommandBot 14:48, 25 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Replaceable fair use Image:Aldred2.jpg[edit]

Replaceable fair use
Replaceable fair use

Thanks for uploading Image:Aldred2.jpg. I noticed the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.

Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, fair use images which could be replaced by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if not used in an article), per our Fair Use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Ricky81682 (talk) 07:28, 27 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Ibm-pc-5100.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Ibm-pc-5100.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you. —Remember the dot (talk) 19:25, 1 November 2007 (UTC) [reply]

Image Copyright problem
Image Copyright problem

Thanks for uploading Image:Ianmackintosh.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use.

If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 02:13, 23 December 2007 (UTC). Thanks for uploading Image:Countgrendel.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Robert holmes.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Robert holmes.jpg.

Thank you.BetacommandBot (talk) 04:28, 24 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Image Copyright problem
Image Copyright problem

Thanks for uploading Image:Newcyberman.jpg.

If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 12:59, 22 February 2008 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Rossrs (talk) 12:59, 22 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
