Bridges

[edit]

I see you've been working on several articles about bridges in Saskatoon and elsewhere in Canada. If you're interested, you might want to check out Wikipedia:WikiProject Bridges, which is a project to standardize articles about bridges and improve the quality of those articles. I've been working on Minnesota bridges as part of the project (although I should probably take a break; I've probably edited about 40 bridge articles today.) Check it out! --Elkman - (talk) 03:40, 30 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I fixed up the Victoria bridge article and will do the other in the next day or two. Thanks for the tip. --M@sk 00:14, 1 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Saskatoon bridges

[edit]

Good work so far on the bridges articles. Please take a moment to make note of changes I and others have made regarding grammar and spelling in the articles. Assuming that you will be creating articles on each bridge, please note that I have added one bridge to the list at the main Saskatoon article -- the Grand Trunk rail bridge -- plus the Idylwyld Bridge was renamed the Sidney L. Buckwold Bridge about 6 years ago so I have changed this accordingly in the article. Cheers. 23skidoo 06:05, 30 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the additions and edits. It will probably be a few days before they all apear but that was my plan. --M@sk 00:15, 1 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Categories

[edit]

Please don't apply Category:Saskatchewan to articles that are already in subcategories such as Category:Universities and colleges in Saskatchewan — the whole idea behind subcategories is to keep them as uncluttered as possible by only applying the narrowest appropriate categories, rather than some recursive stack of duplicated categories. Speedy deletion of Saskatoon Club

[edit]

Please refrain from introducing inappropriate pages such as Saskatoon Club, to Wikipedia. Doing so is not in accordance with our policies. If you would like to experiment, please use the sandbox.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the article does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that a copy be emailed to you. - Jameson L. Tai talkcontribs 17:27, 15 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I've restored the article for the time being. It will, however, require more proof of its notability than its age and mere existence. I work with the US National Register of Historic Places - what is the Canadian equivalent? Right now, it seems unremarkable, and others agree. There needs to be some historic event, historic register, or a similar distinction.
You've done a great deal of good work, but keep in mind that Wikipedia can be a tough environment - the editors who tagged and deleted the article were correct to do so, but I believe the article can be improved and saved if there are appropriate sources. Please do not allow your frustration to lead you to placing inappropriate messages in article space. Acroterion (talk) 17:37, 15 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

AfD nomination of Saskatoon Club

[edit]

I have nominated Saskatoon Club, an article you created, for deletion. I do not feel that this article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and have explained why at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Saskatoon Club. Your opinions on the matter are welcome at that same discussion page; also, you are welcome to edit the article to address these concerns. Thank you for your time. Do you want to opt out of receiving this notice? SchuminWeb (Talk) 17:32, 15 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Contributions

[edit]

I do hope you will consider continuing on Wikipedia. Saskatoon Club comment. You have contributed valuable insight, and articles to wikipedia as a whole, and the silly AfD's are part of the growing pains of Wikipedia establishing credibility in general on the internet. As was noted by several folks who are more familiar with Saskatoon and Saskatchewan, the discussion showed support of your work. I am sorry, I was sick and with mom at hospital during this time, or I would also have added my two cent worth as well. Kind Regards SriMesh | talk 00:59, 21 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy deletion of Enerjet

[edit]

A tag has been placed on Enerjet requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a company or corporation, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guideline for companies and corporations.

—Largo Plazo (talk) 12:50, 26 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Another nomination for deletion. I do question why I should contribute to this community when attempts to do so discouraged in this way. Have a look at the talk page for this article. What criteria do we have on Wikipedia for adding pages about airlines .... --M@sk (talk) 13:23, 26 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

See WP:Notability, WP:Notability (companies). In the case of companies, as in the case of several other classes of topic, the article needs to *indicate* that the topic is notable. This article doesn't, and the likelihood that an airline with a single plane is notable seems small. Regarding the value of contributing to this community: I think it's good that the community is concerned with working toward a quality encyclopedia. Guidelines have been established by consensus to help with this by preventing it from becoming a repository for advertising, advocacy, personal reflection, and so forth, and by preventing large amounts of space by being taken up by topics of relatively little value. —Largo Plazo (talk) 13:46, 26 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

What criteria do you propose? Two aircraft? 10? 100? Do you want to weight average a a Boeing 737 is equivalent to 4-5 props or 1/2 a wide-body? --M@sk (talk) 13:53, 26 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

There is no official threshold based on number of planes or weight. I cited the possession by the company of a single aircraft as an indication that notability is unlikely. For the most part, someone's purchase of some property (a plane, a taxi, a restaurant, an apartment building) for use in earning a living isn't a topic suitable for inclusion in an encyclopedia.
I answered your previous question about the applicable criteria by providing you with links to two relevant articles. The answers are there. Please read them instead of trying to turn this into a confrontation between you and me. You might also look at WP:Welcome and WP:First article.—Largo Plazo (talk) 14:02, 26 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

When deleting the article you also missed the reference on the Edmonton Airport page. I was going to add a reference on the Fort McMurray airport page however there is little point in doing that at this point since the airline clearly does not warrant mention on Wikipedia.

I hope you don't take this as an attack on you. It is not. In the past few months I have had three articles including this one nominated for speedy deletion. In each case we have people waist their time debating the merits of deleting the article and then the article is reinstated. At this point I give up. Clearly the Wikipedia community does not appreciate the effort some of us have put in to making this encyclopedia more complete. You should note, I waited until they received Transport Canada approval before adding them, since once they are licensed there is some substance behind them. Perhaps I should have waited until they announced taking delivery of their second aircraft or third aircraft.... In any case at this point I will leave it to someone else to add it the article once it meets the high standard for notability that appears to be required. I would have assumed including them on the list of Canadian Airlines is something that Wikipedia would defer to Transport Canada, but it is probably best to be notable in these cases instead of complete. --M@sk (talk) 00:32, 27 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Railway stations

[edit]

Hi there! I'm glad to see someone has taken an interest in historic Canadian railway stations. However, I've noticed that you've gone around and tagged a bunch of stations as being "national historic sites" that are really "designated heritage railway stations". There is a difference, and WP is the kind of place where we care about those kinds of little errors. Just a heads up. Otherwise, keep up the good work! --Kevlar (talkcontribs) 03:31, 5 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I'm here about the same issue, as there are a number of "stations" added which are only flagstops - not even a building, just a spot where the train will stop (if asked). Even with larger towns than Cedarvale, British Columbia, e.g. Houston and Smithers, there's no need at all for a separate "station" article, the category can simply be added to the town article. Unless there's a notable building I see no reason whatsoever for "Houston (British Columbia) railway station", Cedarvale railway station, Telkwa railway station. All such articles should be merged with their placename counterparts, as they have no valid reason to exist; architectural, historical significance etc are why they would be notable enough to have separate articles; but even in Silverdale railway station (again just a flagstop, but where Billy Miner robbed the train]], there's no need for a separate article from Silverdale, British Columbia. Also there are doubled articles - there's already Boston Bar adn North Bend station articles without the VIA name in their title and they should be merged with the ones you've created; in those two cases, North Bend in particular, there were (and maybe still are, abandoned or in ruins) actual railway station buildings.Skookum1 (talk) 15:18, 6 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Also, Mission Harbour railway station got me curious, as the source says it's on Harbour Avenue in Mission, which is the waterfront; I haven't be in the home burg for a while but I can't see where this station would be, or what service it would be a station on, as the rail line adjacent to Harbour Avenue is the connector line to Abbotsford that uses the rail bridge. The old Mission CPR station, now a museum/cultural centre SFAIK, is on Railway Avenue, a couple of blocks west of teh West Coast Express station...but nowhere near Harbour Avenue.Skookum1 (talk) 15:18, 6 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

  • Welcome
  • We’re excited to announce that User:Presidentman has joined WikiProject Saskatchewan as our Editor in Chief. Presidentman will oversee editorial content and the Saskatchewan Wikiproject community contributions on the Wikiproject newsletter. Presidentman has also successfully developed the Picture of the Day project and has been active on wikipedia for close to three years in a plethora of projects enriching wikipedia with close to 3,000 contributions. The transition between our old editor and the new has been smoother than any of us could have hoped for — SriMesh wrote their last newsletter article for January, 2010, and Presidentman started up without missing a beat for February 2010. The previous years for SriMesh, the past editor, had been richly rewarding, seeing subscriptions grow, informing interested editors of developments and changes to the Saskatchewan wikipedia community and supporting activities on the Saskatchewan Wikiproject. It is now time for me to move to new writing projects to finish, and further responsibilities which are vying for my attention. Please join me in welcoming Presidentman to the their new position! Presidentman is working on a host of new features and an updated look, which will take things to a new level. It is wonderful to have a new editor to bring in the new year! Expect great things.
Welcome Presidentman, and best wishes!
Your wonderful act of kindness to take on editorial capacity of the Saskatchewan Wikiproject news letter is much appreciated! Thank you so much!!!

Rocky Mountaineer

[edit]

You have created articles for dozens of railway stations throughout western Canada and now you are doing some for Rocky Mountaineer. For VIA you used "Infobox station" but for RM you are using "Infobox Historic building". Was there some reason for this? I have changed the infobox for Rocky Mountaineer Station and created a Rocky Mountaineer style. The gold colour is exactly the same as the logo, which I have also uploaded. The style can be changed if you think it is not suitable. Thanks for the work you have done. Secondarywaltz (talk) 20:33, 14 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Why? Why? Why?

[edit]

I created Template:Rocky Mountaineer style, while you in your great wisdom following on behind decided to name your templates "RockyMountaineer" (without the space) WTF? The article is Rocky Mountaineer. I have now renamed that first template to match as Template:RockyMountaineer style. Please change any new infoboxes. Are you going to create North Vancouver railway station? Thanks for all your work anyway. Secondarywaltz (talk) 22:37, 26 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry about that I don't know what I was thinking. I should have made the names consistent with the one you started. I am going to create a North Vancouver Station article. --M@sk (talk) 23:16, 2 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
What is the Whistler Mountaineer? Should that article be renamed Whistler Sea to Sky Climb? Secondarywaltz (talk) 17:40, 27 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
At one point in time the run up to Whistler was advertised and sold as the Whistler Mountaineer. I need to check to see if they are still doing that. I don't think so. --M@sk (talk) 23:16, 2 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I notice you have also named all the RM routes in the succession boxes in the station infoboxes without spaces. You should use the full correct name as on the website. Secondarywaltz (talk) 23:44, 2 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Yorath Island

You've linked to Cottonwood, but this is a disambig page, just letting you know seeing as you are the only contributor. Thanks, ConconJondor (talk) 15:41, 5 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Citations

[edit]

I made a few edits to Yorath Island, which included rewriting the references. You can go to edit mode to see exactly what I did. I recommend you have a look at Wikipedia:Citation templates - a particularly useful one is {{cite web}}. Not only do they make the references clearer, they also assist bots that look for dead links and salvage the reference with archive URLs. In the meantime, keep up the good work! --Drm310 (talk) 15:28, 7 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Also, if you want to re-use an existing citation further down the page, here's how to do it:
  1. In the first instance of the citation, make sure it has a name enclosed in quotes, e.g. <ref name="citation1">{{cite web ...
  2. Further instances of the citation can be used with this syntax: <ref name="citation1" />
Note the use of quotes, the space after and the trailing slash. That's the proper syntax so you don't need the </ref> tag. In the Reflist, the citation will appear with small letters (e.g. ab), where each one will jump to the appropriate place where the citation was used. You can read more about it at WP:REFNAME... hope that helps. --Drm310 (talk) 17:40, 12 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Looking at this edit, where you add Queen Elizabeth II Court in Regina to a list of structures named after Queen Elizabeth II, is there anything odd about it, causing another editor to revert you twice? It seems pretty straightforward to me, and I'm always keen on defending good work. --Pete (talk) 00:26, 6 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Looks good to me. Not certain what the problem is. Thanks for point that out..... M@sk (talk) 02:07, 6 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. I just wanted to check in case I'd missed something. I've added a few more Canadian buildings named after the Queen, fixed a redlink or two. --Pete (talk) 02:40, 6 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, M@sk, and thanks for your contributions to Wikipedia!

I wanted to let you know that I’m proposing an article that you worked on, Avord Tower, for deletion because I don't think it meets our criteria for inclusion. If you don't want the article deleted:

  1. edit the page
  2. remove the text that looks like this: {{proposed deletion/dated...}}
  3. save the page

It helps to explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page. If you have any questions, feel free to ask on the Help Desk. Thanks again for contributing! noq (talk) 12:50, 7 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The article C.M. Fines Building has been proposed for deletion. The proposed-deletion notice added to the article should explain why.

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. noq (talk) 12:50, 7 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The article Kindersley Mall has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

I cannot find sufficient notable independent, substantive, multiple RS coverage of the notability of this 15-store, 131,000 sf mall on gnews or gbooks. Though it does have run-of-the-mill coverage.

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

AfD and PROD notifications

[edit]

Hi M@sk,

Back in December, you got either an AfD or PROD notification, which was part of the template testing project's experiments. If you could go here and leave us some feedback about what you think about the new versions of the templates we tested (there are links to the templates), that would be very useful. (You can also email me at mpinchuk@wikimedia.org if you want.) Thanks! Maryana (WMF) (talk) 20:53, 17 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hello

[edit]

You, being the main contributor to List of mines in Canada, might be interested in my pet-project to organize, begin and determine lists of missing mines. I've created this userpage: User:ncboy2010/mines to attempt to organize what we do and don't have. Please take a look at that and let me know if there are anything I might be missing. The reason I ask you is because your one of the only other wikipedians who's worked on a list of mines before me. Thanks for any input! Ncboy2010 (talk) 17:49, 18 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. When you recently edited Temple REIT, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Sheraton (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Algoma Central Templates

[edit]

I have redirected the Algoma Central succession templates to CN to be more inclusive. Another line Canadian National Railway operates is the Kaoham Shuttle in BC. Do you know of any more? This system can also be used for defunct or historic CN lines. It also seems more logical when AC now shows up as a line of the CN system, when previously it was a one-trick pony. Agawa Canyon railway station

[edit]

What was wrong with Canyon (Agawa) railway station? Don't start making "stations" out of every flag stop and siding. It is just not helpful and they are not notable or stations. This Schedule show the difference. Notice Canyon station. Secondarywaltz (talk) 04:38, 17 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

p.s. The station is in Canyon, Algoma District. Secondarywaltz (talk) 05:05, 17 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
