DYK for Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board

[edit]

I created and wrote the article on the MPRB. -- Mnnlaxer | talk | stalk 18:23, 20 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

On 25 January 2018, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that the Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board oversees a park system that has been called the best-designed, best-financed, and best-maintained in America? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board. You are welcome to check how many page hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board), and it may be added to the statistics page if the total is over 5,000. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

Thank you for quality articles such as David Kilcullen, 2010 World Lacrosse Championship, Carleton Knights and Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board, for improving team sports articles in collaboration, for service from 2008, - you are an awesome Wikipedian!

Wikiproject Lacrosse

[edit]

Hey! I noticed that you and me were the only ones working on the lacrosse wiki project, so I thought it would be good if we worked together on it a little bit. I’m more of a writer and researcher and not as much of a programmer besides the basic stuff. Twooeight (talk) 16:43, 19 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @Twooeight:. I'm not sure what collaboration you're talking about, I mostly edit sporadically on my own. But I know wikicode and templates fairly well. Do you have some questions? Maybe on references? The best thing you can do is use the "Templates" drop down in the upper left of the editing box. (I think everyone sees this, but it might be a preference.) Use "Cite web" for non-news websites and "Cite news" for news. In the pop up box, paste the url and click the magnifying glass. It will populate some fields for you. Also, just click the date icon to add today's accessdate.
You can use parameter "pll_team" instead of "league" and "team" on {{infobox lacrosse player}}.
Watch out for disambiguations. You can get disambiguation links to be orange. Under preferences, check the box near the bottom under appearance. There are lots of good options on the gadget page, btw.
You can post a note on the active members' talk pages to try to build some momentum. I went through the list and all are currently active. - Mnnlaxer | talk | stalk 15:57, 20 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Yea I knew that link was to a disambiguation page, but I didn’t know which choice was correct so I thought it would be better to leave at the disambiguation than to choose the wrong one. I noticed you left a note on one person’s page and I will do the same with a few others. For the collaboration, I just meant we both work on improving the page for the project and stuff like that. I’m actually not really sure what I meant about that but I thought I should say something to you because we were the only ones editing it. The wiki project page does need a lot of updating though because so many of the links lead nowhere or to very outdated places, and the tasks and goals are also pretty old (although many still apply). Thank you for the editing tips as well.Twooeight (talk) 17:42, 20 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Sounds good. Good luck recruiting more editors for the project page. -- Mnnlaxer | talk | stalk 18:25, 20 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Specific notability guideline for lacrosse players

[edit]

Also, WP:ATH doesn’t have a criteria for lacrosse players. I want to make one but it seems like an important change and I thought I should check with someone before doing it. What do you think should be included in that? Twooeight (talk) 23:39, 21 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I wouldn't bother. There isn't enough interest in deleting marginally notable lax players, so it isn't really needed. It also would likely cause more heat than light, as it is something to argue about. Have you gotten into a good wikipedia argument yet? But if you're gung ho, go for it. I have high standards for notability, which would mean only the best players in the professional leagues (NLL, MLL, PLL, and WPLL) are notable to me, say all-stars. Great DI college careers would also be notable, say first team all-american. Championship or career record coaches too. I'm good with anybody in the hall of fame, but I would want some other sources for prose besides the hall of fame page bio. That's really my notability standard. If you google somebody and have multiple articles about that person (not just a mention or stats) on the first page, then they are notable. And I don't like stats-heavy articles. Check out the other sports for more ideas. - Mnnlaxer | talk | stalk 00:32, 22 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Nice job diving in! Dont' get discouraged by stick in the muds. It will take work to get to the end of the process. FYI, I found this page very helpful. And you should include criteria for coaches too. - Mnnlaxer | talk | stalk 13:09, 23 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Twooeight, I don't have the skills or resources to do the research that the editors at WP:ATH are asking for. I'll support the effort there, but that's all I can help with. -- - Mnnlaxer | talk | stalk 17:54, 24 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
The FAQ page was very helpful. What I took from it was that the subject must have at least one or maybe two articles written primarily about about the person or thing. If there is a criteria of lacrosse players that will have all of that. Thank you for helping me with this on Wikipedia talk:Notability (sports)#Lacrosse, because you’ve added a lot of important points that I wouldn’t have thought of. And no, I haven’t been in a Wikipedia fight yet, sounds fun though. Twooeight (talk) 18:14, 24 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

An article you recently created, 2019 World Indoor Lacrosse Championship, does not have enough sources and citations as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. CASSIOPEIA(talk) 06:36, 2 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

CASSIOPEIA, okay, thanks. - Mnnlaxer | talk | stalk 13:51, 2 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@CASSIOPEIA:, could you review the draft article now? I added some content and sources. There isn't much else out there right now, but the event starts in one month and will have much more coverage soon. I will continue to load the schedule to the draft article as I wait for publishing in article space. Thank you! - Mnnlaxer | talk | stalk 15:11, 21 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
FYI, there is more coverage of roster announcemets, [1] and [2] , but rosters aren't typically posted in the final article, so I'm not padding it out with these sources right now. - Mnnlaxer | talk | stalk 15:18, 21 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I think that the two pages above should be merged because the PLPA one is too short to have its own article but should have its own section in NLL, but I don’t really know how to propose mergers and WP:MERGE wasn’t as helpful as I hope. If you can help me with this that would be great, and if you can’t then I’ll try to figure it out better. Thanks! Twooeight (talk) 00:27, 14 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I was WP:Bold and just did it. Good suggestion. - Mnnlaxer | talk | stalk 12:57, 14 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for your input on the John Hiller article. I made a number of changes per your suggestions. Let me know if you think of anything else. Cbl62 (talk) 21:21, 15 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

You're welcome Cbl62. I'm going to pass the article now. I'm not sure about the non-Hiller images and I would prefer some variety in the sentence structure, but it's a good article as is. Good work. - Mnnlaxer | talk | stalk 02:10, 16 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. I did work to vary the start of several of the sentences. As for the photos, I may have been trying to hard to pull a couple of them in that aren't too on point. Cbl62 (talk) 02:22, 16 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

GA review of Aztecazo

[edit]

Mnnlaxer, you just edited the WP:GAN page, attempting to put this review on hold. This is not how you put articles on hold, and the edit will be undone by the bot the next time it runs (which may already have occurred). The bot runs every 20 minutes, rewriting the GAN page when there are changes, and bases its content on the talk pages of the various nominated articles, and also (when they exist) the review pages.

The instructions on how to put a nomination on hold are at WP:GANI#Putting the article on hold, so you can do so correctly. (This will also result in a message being placed on the nominator's talk page, letting them know that it's on hold.) You will probably want to read the rest of the instructions for reviewers elsewhere on that page. Thanks for being willing to review. BlueMoonset (talk) 15:32, 20 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the info. Will do. - Mnnlaxer | talk | stalk 15:44, 20 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Hello. I'm really glad you have taken this article into consideration for a good article. I'm all in to do what is needed to improve it. I need, however, a bit of help regarding those unclear translations, namely that one about "the father of the tomatoes". It happens that "el papá de los tomates" is a Costa Rican expression that may be translated to "the big boss, the big fish" or something like that. I don't know how appropriate is to put any of those expressions as they may not be accurate (I'm not sure). --AndSalx95 (talk) 18:40, 21 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
I think big boss or big fish is fine, anything execpt the literal translation would work. Note that the article says he used the same phrase as Medford. I added another clarify to Medford's quote earlier in the article. Not sure if that's the same phrase as the later quote in Spanish. I wouldn't worry too much about getting these perfect. Just something better than literal translations so that it makes sense in English. Thanks. Also, "hasting showed" doesn't make sense either. - Mnnlaxer | talk | stalk 21:40, 21 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
You can check the article now to see if there's anything else to be improved. --AndSalx95 (talk) 01:49, 23 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
I made one last change and then passed it. Congrats! - Mnnlaxer | talk | stalk 13:50, 23 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Lacrosse/GA2

[edit]

I have started reviewing Lacrosse and have put it on hold as I have concerns about depth of coverage, prose, and quality of sources. See Talk:Lacrosse/GA2. My recommendation is that as this is a significant topic, that some time and thought be given to doing detailed research using the various reliable texts (not commercial or club websites) on the subject, and fleshing out the bones of the article, and then getting it properly copyedited. In my experience, this is likely to take some months, so it would be best to close the review now; however, I have known determined contributors turn around an article in a few weeks, so I'm prepared to keep the review open if you feel you can devote the time and energy needed to get this up to GA standard before the end of the month. SilkTork (talk) 10:50, 19 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for accepting the review. I understand your concerns and I have asked for help on the project page. Hopefully the project can rise to the occasion. - Mnnlaxer | talk | stalk 13:54, 19 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]
I have closed the GA review as not-listed. When the issues have been addressed the article can be nominated again. SilkTork (talk) 09:38, 27 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Dread Central

[edit]

Hi, with regards to your edit [[3]] on the AfD for 100 Million B.C., Dread Central is listed as a Reliable Source at WikiProject Horror/Sources for future reference. Thanks. Donaldd23 (talk) 12:44, 29 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Donaldd23: That's nice that a project considers it reliable. Do you generally think that one review in Dread Central establishes notability by itself? - Mnnlaxer | talk | stalk 15:19, 29 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Enough to pass WP:GNG. Donaldd23 (talk) 15:21, 29 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Multiple sources are generally required for GNG, and certainly for such a low quality source. Glad to see the closing admin didn't agree with you. - Mnnlaxer | talk | stalk 16:21, 29 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
