2012 Summer Olympics

[edit]

Great job with the effort, however the formatting is off a bit and I took the time to fix it. Keep trying though! Intoronto1125 (talk) 04:53, 1 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks Intoront1125.

I see the need for editing, but I do think the article is a little less accurate now though, because the rules about what happens if an NOC exceeds its allocation in qualification events have been removed. In effect, the article now says top 8 individuals win qualification places, but that's not actualy true, it's the top eight, excluding those from NOCS finishing 1-8 in the team event. That's not the same thing. Rather than have a detailed discussion on it or anything, is this maybe a place for a more detailed and separate 2010 Olympic Games - Archery - Qualification article? Mpjmcevoy (talk) 11:41, 1 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Yes I think that is needed let's work on it togther. By the way the information is not lost, rather not there, because the article has not been created, I am going ahead and going to start on it. Intoronto1125 (talk) 16:20, 1 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Oh and remember to indent before you post another comment keep up the great work!!. Intoronto1125 (talk) 16:21, 1 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
no problem, be delighted to; and thanks - can i suggest that we remove words like "top 8" from the main article, and simply indicate the number of places (in that case, simply '8') that will be awarded per Noc or per event, and then in the secondary, qualification article, we set out how those places are allotted, with all the little rules? Mpjmcevoy (talk) 16:48, 1 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
We could, but it would not correctly (at least in the tables) say what ranking you have to achieve, in this case its needed. Intoronto1125 (talk) 18:03, 1 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
True, but the problem is that what it currently says is just wrong. It's not the top 8 who get in, it's the top 8 after a certain number of NOCs are excepted. It's better left out altogether than inaccurate. I know it's nice to have neat tables, but that's not a good enough reason to put up things that are demonstrably not right.
I'm taking out the references to 'top' because they are just not true, but i'm happy to discuss how we get infomration up that is accurate, either here, or in the companion article. Mpjmcevoy (talk) 22:08, 1 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Welcome!

Weolcome to WP:MUSE, the Wikiproject with the coolest abbreviation ever! It's somewhat dead at the moment, but we're working on a complete revival of it, so it's good to have some fresh blood to get it active again! I'm always happy to collaborate with anyone on practically any article, so if you want help, just leave a note on my talk, or (probably a better alternative) on the WP:MUSE talk.

New coordinator

Hi. When you recently edited 1931 World Archery Championships, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Target (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Getting Wikimedians to the Olympic Games

[edit]

Hi. I am part of an effort to get Wikimedians access to the 2016 Summer Olympics as accredited reporters and photographers. Part of this effort includes covering the 2012 Summer Paralympics. Two Wikimedians have credentials to attend these games as reporters through Wikimedia Australia. As English Wikipedia does not allow original reporting, this is largely through Wikinews with a project page found at Wikinews:Paralympic Games. If you are interested in helping to get Wikimedians to the next Summer Olympics,I'd encourage you to assist with Wikinews efforts, and also to work on all language 2012 Summer Paralympic Wikipedia articles before, during and after the Games to demonstrate a track record of success. Thank you. --LauraHale (talk) 04:32, 17 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, I'm BracketBot. I have automatically detected that your edit to 2020 Summer Olympics may have broken the syntax by modifying 1 "()"s. If you have, don't worry, just edit the page again to fix it. If I misunderstood what happened, or if you have any questions, you can leave a message on my operator's talk page.

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

Hello, I noticed that you recently created a new page, 2013 RideLondon London-Surrey Cycle Classic. First, thank you for your contribution; Wikipedia relies solely on the efforts of volunteers such as you. Unfortunately, the page you created covers a topic on which we already have a page – 2013 RideLondon-Surrey Classoc. Because of the duplication, your article has been tagged for speedy deletion. Please note that this is not a comment on you personally and we hope you will continue helping to improve Wikipedia. If the topic of the article you created is one that interests you, then perhaps you would like to help out at 2013 RideLondon-Surrey Classoc – you might like to discuss new information at the article's talk page.

If you think the article you created should remain separate, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, you can place a request here. Additionally if you would like to have someone review articles you create before they go live so they are not nominated for deletion shortly after you post them, allow me to suggest the article creation process and using our search feature to find related information we already have in the encyclopedia. Try not to be discouraged. Wikipedia looks forward to your future contributions. Mpjmcevoy (talk) 14:02, 12 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Invitation to the African Destubathon

[edit]

Hi. You may be interested in participating in the African Destubathon which starts on October 15. Africa currently has over 37,000 stubs and badly needs a quality improvement editathon/contest to flesh out basic stubs. There are proposed substantial prizes to give to editors who do the most articles, and planned smaller prizes for doing to most destubs for each of the 53 African countries, so should be enjoyable! So it would be a good chance to win something for improving stubs on African sportspeople, including footballers, athletes, Olympians and Paralympians etc, particularly female ones, but also male. Even if contests aren't your thing we would be grateful if you could consider destubbing a few African articles during the drive to help the cause and help reduce the massive 37,000 + stub count, of which many are rated high importance (think Regions of countries etc). If you're interested in competing or just loosely contributing a few expanded articles on African Paralympians, Olympians and committees etc, please add your name to the Contestants/participants section. Diversity of work from a lot of people will make this that bit more special. Thanks. --MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 21:14, 6 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Notice

The file File:Drmckenna.gif has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

unused, low-res, no obvious use

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated files}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the file's talk page.

Please consider addressing the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated files}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and files for discussion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion.

This bot DID NOT nominate any file(s) for deletion; please refer to the page history of each individual file for details. Thanks, FastilyBot (talk) 01:01, 14 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
