Roman army

[edit]

I read somewhere, that in the roman army there were Greek legions. Meaning, legions, whose bulk was entirely by Greek soldiers. Since the Ancient Europeen civilization was Greek-Roman and there were many greeks in Rome, is that possible or it's just a speculation? As the two cultures were very much alike I come to think that it's not so impossible. Thanks for your attention: Elan Morin Tedronai 17:58, 15 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

created articles

[edit]

M,

I'm glad to have my suspicion that you're from Hungary confirmed. Your name is not quite enough of a hint (at least to this English monoglot) to be sure.

As for your invitation to comment on Timing Attack and Crypto Primitive, the following. Timing attack, it seems to me is just about right. An introduction, and explanation, some examples, and some context within which to understand it. My quibbles are largely about the odd sentence which needs a tweak and some English phrasing. Good job, I think, and I'll try to remember to get to it and clean up a bit. The primitive article is more problematic. There are similar phrasing problems here and there, but the structure is a bit thin. I can see (I think) what you have in mind in several places, but it doesn't quite make it onto the page. I'll try to drop by and have a go at it as well.

Re-welcome. ww 07:36, 1 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

It's a long term process. Since all the folks on WP are all volunteers, and since anyone can change (delete, modify, ...) whatever they like, it's even longer. We cryptiacs are writing technically based material which has a twisty and tricky quality to it. The content, for which style isn't really important, is paramount, yet many editors concentrate on style and existing content can be (and too often is) lost or altered. As you note, keeping watch is important, lest the changes get out of hand. We all get to do some of the patrolling fun. ww 18:50, 7 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Zahira College Colombo

[edit]

Hi friend you initiated a copyvio notice on this article. Actually this article was written by me, see this [www.geocities.com/Zahira_College_Colombo www.geocities.com/Zahira_College_Colombo] but I had no way to prove it. Now I have included a copyright notice at the bottom of the article (GFDL), this allows anyone to copy from the site. So the copyvio tag has to be reconsidered. I have also made the copyvio notice to point to the actual webpage I copied from which was created by me.  «Mÿšíc»  (T) 11:31, 9 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Again I didn't want to outsmart anyone, if you felt that way I am really sorry

, Its important to me because its my alma matter . The same article could be found at www.azzahira.com as well; See I contributed to this website long time back, Now the administrator of the website is someone else. The angelfire website is not mine, I am sure some pupil of the college copied it from the original website and posted it there. Derek Ross tole me to include the GFDL, I didn't know about this till he told me. The next moment he told me I put the notice there. Thanks.  «Mÿšíc»  (T) 14:59, 12 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah, I can see why. The only reason I found the policy was browsing through the 'Proposed Policies' category because I was bored and wanted to vote in something! If the policy had more exposure I bet people would take notice. Go look at Community Portal - the current events bit at the top hasn't changed in days - why not add the policy to that? I always look there for stuff I can get involved in. Good luck, anyways. —Vanderdeckenξくしーφふぁい 09:16, 16 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

WP:DUU90 again

[edit]

Hello Máté,

Since I originally created the straw poll at WP:DUU90 and posted it on the Community Portal, the project has had an amazing wave of success. Recently that began to decline again, so I reposted the project on the Community Portal. Now the proposal stands at 212 Support, 6 Conditional Supports (two of which have had the conditions satisifed, so it's safe to assume they count as Supports), and only 14 Oppose (some of which have been proved to be wrong, so that might decrease as well).

In other words, the idea has been an overwhelming success, and I would like to propose to you that you make this known to the administrators, the Sysops and even the Board of Directors and Jimmy Wales himself. This revolution of thinking has come a long way since the first edition and we have you to thank for the little spark of thought which started it. I suggest that we make this known to the Admins, Leaders and Sysops and finally get something done about WP:DUU90. Thank you. —Vanderdecken ξくしーφふぁい 19:08, 6 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Concerning the films you have mentioned I have to admit that I have not seen them yet (I will try to change this). I am not really specialised on British films. I am rather focused on certain directors. The article of "My Summer of Love is actually my first wiki edit and I am still watching over it and I try to add every piece of new informatin I can grab. Up to now I must have watched the movie 20 times and I think I read pretty much everything I could find about it on the internet (German and English) - Lacoby, 23 July 06

Hi, the current tag says: "This file is in the public domain, because it is a work of the Office of the Prime Minister of the Hungarian Government."

This is new to me. So the PM's office puts all its work in the public domain? Do you have any references for this?

Fair use rationale for Image:Ashes And Diamonds screenshot.png

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Ashes And Diamonds screenshot.png. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. (ESkog)(Talk) 21:19, 14 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Re: GyF

[edit]

In reply to the heated comment you left me regarding this article: the dispute between User:Beyond silence and myself was not about the doping scandal sentence, though at the end there were some reverts regarding that as well. BS had been removing perfectly referenced and neutral statements about Gyurcsány's religious affiliation ([1], [2], [3], [4], [5]), and adding ungrammatical and/or otherwise inappropriate material ([6], [7], [8], [9], [10]). While at it, he launched personal attacks against me in an edit summary ([11]), in e-mails (possibly hoping to "troll out" my mail address? - he didn't get it), and on my talk page. I have to question the sincerity of the only apology he offered about the latter – on his own talk page, and not very verbosely –, because at the same time, he sent me another mail (which I discovered weeks later in my spam folder) saying just this in the subject line: "köcsög". (That's approximately "asshole", for those who read this but don't understand Hungarian.) Finally, the page got protected due to his documented violation of 3RR.

On my part, all that I did was try to limit his POV-pushing destruction by putting back whatever he tried to remove without justification. Superficially, he did try (or pretend? – I don't care to find out which) to justify his removals, but all he could say basically boiled down to "it's wrong because I don't think so". At the same time, even though the subject does not fit my area of interest and I didn't mean to contribute to the article initially, I did improve minor things. I mainly copyedited broken English, added/improved references, and rephrased the "religious affiliation" paragraph from a mild anti-Gyurcsány POV to neutral (see here, here, and here). There is circumstantial evidence that what I did to the article was right: the only two users that provided third opinions following my request at the Hungarian noticeboard both reverted to an earlier revision by me ([12], [13]).

I couldn't care less about edit counts to either this article or in general. If it troubles you that my edits of minor import number more than yours that were no doubt more substantial, well, there is nothing I can do for you. Be comforted with the fact that the job of reverting aggressive POV-pushers, while I consider it absolutely necessary, is not my favourite either.

Finally, please refrain from profanity when writing to my talk page. Also, please use English as we are supposed to; this should not be a problem since your userpage says you are en-4.

Invitation to events: bot, template, and Gadget makers wanted

I thought you might want to know about some upcoming events where you can learn more about MediaWiki customization and development, extending functionality with JavaScript, the future of ResourceLoader and Gadgets, the new Lua templating system, how to best use the web API for bots, and various upcoming features and changes. We'd love to have power users, bot maintainers and writers, and template makers at these events so we can all learn from each other and chat about what needs doing.

Check out the Chennai event in March, the Berlin hackathon in June, the developers' days preceding Wikimania in July in Washington, DC, or any other of our events.
