Redirect of Holtzappel
[edit]Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Holtzappel, by Sgeureka (talk · contribs), another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Holtzappel is a redirect to a non-existent page (CSD R1).
To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting Holtzappel, please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Hi Shanel, this is Jack Phoenix of Wikia. We talked a bit over at #wikia-antivandalism. :)
Anyway, here are the troll accounts with appropriate links:
- Jack Phoenix on French Wikipedia - My userpage history on French Wikipedia - block log for "Jack Phoenix" (blocked indefinitely
- Jack Phoenix on English Wikipedia - My userpage history on English Wikipedia - block log for "Jack Phoenix" (blocked indefinitely)
- Jack Phoenix on Finnish Wikipedia - My userpage history on Finnish Wikipedia - block log for "Jack Phoenix" (blocked indefinitely)
- Roosaa kirottu on Finnish Wikipedia (not blocked yet)
Thanks for your time and it was very nice to meet you. :) --Roosa 22:05, 22 May 2007 (UTC)
As of now, 14:16, 24 May 2007 (UTC), one imposter more:
- Fennix on Finnish Wikipedia - My userpage history on Finnish Wikipedia - not yet blocked
The name is an intentional misspelling of my Finnish nickname I use outside Wikipedia and Wikia . I'm guessing this is yet another sockpuppet...and similiar intentional misspellings of that nick have appeared on Wikia too. Thanks for your time to clean up this mess, Shanel. :) --Roosa 14:16, 24 May 2007 (UTC)
Hi. Have you made any arrangements to depopulate the categories you deleted, or are you going to leave that to the rest of us? Thanks – Gurch 17:34, 25 May 2007 (UTC)
Deletion discussion?
[edit]I notice you deleted Category:Furry Wikipedians, and removed it from people's userpages... However, I can't find a deletion discussion for this category, in CFD, MFD, or anywhere else... Care to point me to it? Thanks, Bushytails 19:29, 25 May 2007 (UTC).
- Finally found one, had to look way back... in November 2006, this category was listed for deletion, but the result was a definite keep. Has there been anything newer? Thanks again, Bushytails 19:48, 25 May 2007 (UTC).
- While I may do that, the first step of a deletion review is, of course, to talk to the person who deleted it. :)
- By some quick estimating and searching, there's probably well over a thousand wikipedia articles (many with associated media) on topics releated to furry fandom, mentioning furs, or of significant interest to the furry community, and as it is a major subculture, this is to be expected. Like the other subcategories of Category:Wikipedians, Category:Furry Wikipedians could be used to find editors with similar interests to help with an article, resolve disputes, and so forth, and complies with all guidelines I can find for classifying wikipedians, such as not being inflammatory, divisive, or intended to promote politics.
- You suggest the use of a userbox instead... By that logic, the entire Category:Wikipedians structure is unneeded, and should instead be replaced by about a million (or so) userboxes, that every user who wished to categorize themselves would need to add to their userpage... And not being too much of a fan of userboxes myself (note my page has nothing other than babel boxes), I hope you'll agree with me that this would be a bad thing. (Also note the category existed long before the furry userbox, possibly before widespread use of userboxes... and many people were in the category that do not use userboxes). Especially with userboxes being phased out, proper categories are neccessary. (As a side-note, there were a couple hundred more users in the category before the big userbox deletions, as most people had their box deleted rather than replaced with a userspace one.)
- Being popular for vandalism and attacks is no reason to delete something, and is something most long-term wikipedians have come to expect... And vandalism of a category, unlike vandalism of a userbox, has very little impact and almost no visibility, while a vandalized userbox will appear on hundreds of pages at once.
- And then, of course, the result of a deletion discussion only 6 months ago was "keep", and in several other deletion discussions, other wikipedian categories were deleted with their users being moved to Category:Furry Wikipedians from other more narrowly-defined categories, implying the desirability of that one.
- Short version: It helps further the project, doesn't hurt the project, complies with all policies, has been repeatedly voted to be kept, and probably shouldn't be deleted. :) Thanks, Bushytails 21:33, 25 May 2007 (UTC).
- Heh, you think goons doing mindless wiki-vandalism is a new problem? They attack just about everything they dislike, both online and offline... I remember when I was doing some advertising for a furry-oriented meeting... we put up glossy 14x19" mini-posters advertising it... so, of course, the local goons pulled them down and put up their own anti-furry posters... I just wish I remembered to get photos of them dressed up as fake ninjas while they were swapping posters. Some fursuits may look odd, but not nearly as laughable as a bunch of slightly drunk goons with black sweatshirts wrapped around their heads. :)
- Ah, those were the days... I got around a hundred death threats over that. But, that's a bit off-topic... I'll just assume that most furs who state their furryness in public are thick-skinned enough to revert their userpages slightly more often than other users... And removing one source of people to complain about will just cause them to find another. I think goons have some disease that will cause them to instantly die if they can't find someone to bash. :)
- I've found categories useful... For example, when I started the metalworking wikiproject, I looked through them to see if I could find people with similar interests to help edit pages. (sadly, I didn't find any useful categories, but that shows how much more popular furry fandom is than mechanical engineering, and that we need more categories for engineers!). With furry pages, due to the relatively high volume of sneaky vandalism, a category of topic-aware editors is always helpful... And, of course, as I said before, it's been voted "keep" at least a couple times.
- Most people probably didn't notice because it was included with the userbox, and not many people check the list of categories at the bottom of their user page to see if one of them is suddenly missing... for the others, there's been so many non-policy-approved deletions lately that apathy runs high... and most people are probably scared to argue with a potentially rogue steward, anyway.
- "Too much work" isn't a very good answer... I bet it'd take less than 5 minutes. I could do it in 15, but I don't have the few extra bits set on the server that lets me see all the undo links at once and skip the verification step. (Hell... my allergies are too bad right now to get any actual work done... if you undelete the category, I'll start re-adding people to it. I haven't been on wikipedia much the last year, need to boost my edit count anyway! :) Bushytails 00:40, 26 May 2007 (UTC)
I too only discovered this had gone when you (Shanel) removed the category from my userpage, and like Bushytails — for pretty much the exact reasons he set out above — I can't say I'm all that happy about it. So, pace your comment in User talk:Bushytails, he was not the only person who noticed! Does it really matter? No, not really. But it's mildly disappointing to have a category zapped with no prior warning after a fairly recent vote to keep. I won't make a huge song and dance about it, but I would have preferred it not to have been done. Loganberry (Talk) 00:36, 26 May 2007 (UTC)
- I will. One of the arguments given was that it's a way for trolls to find targets, but they could just as easily do the same with the list of users including the template. Besides, since when did we give in to trolls? The articles in Category:Furry are similarly vandalized, but I don't think anyone would see that as a reason to remove that category. Album covers
[edit]As album covers are, by their very definition, not replaceable by a free alternative, they inherently fall under the "no free alternative possible" criterion for a fair use justification. Period. Bearcat 05:17, 26 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit]Hey Shanel! You've got mail! Tell me if you need any more information :)
Wikipedia:User categories for discussion
[edit]I've noted that you've subjectively speedily deleted quite a few Wikipedian categories outside of the existing process at WP:UCFD.
Rather than just list them all at WP:DRV, I'd like to ask you to revert your deletion and restore the categories. And then feel free to nominate any that you have issues with at WP:UCFD. - jc37 23:03, 30 May 2007 (UTC)
- While it would have been preferable that these were deleted within UCFD, I have to agree that most if not all the deleted categories were unencyclopedic and personally can't fault an IAR deletion of them. I wouldn't be surprized if DRV felt the same way. Of course, if Shanel wants to undelete them and bring them to UCFD that's fine too. VegaDark (talk) 23:59, 30 May 2007 (UTC)
Since you've had a few edits since I've posted this, I'll presume that you are choosing to not respond (which is your perogative, in this case, I suppose). Since they were speedy deletions, if we consider the concerns above, we have more than just 2 concerned editors, which is enough per the speedy deletions section of WP:CFD for a normal listing. So I'm going to go ahead and revert them all "en masse", and list them at WP:UCFD for discussion. Personally, I think more than a few will likely still be deleted for the reasons you gave, but I think it's probably better to not "pick and choose" in this case. - jc37 08:32, 4 June 2007 (UTC)
Fair use rationale for Image:Unbreakmyheart.jpg
[edit]Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Unbreakmyheart.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.
Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 16:08, 4 June 2007 (UTC)

[edit]Well, first off, this person was, or at least claimed to be, an employee of Universal Records, the Shop Boyz record label; this isn't allowed at Wikipedia and is protected by a policy. Also, even when I tried to explain to this user why their edits were reverted, while, at the same time, citing policies, they refused to comply and continued to make the flawed edits. Hello, there.
I just wanted to know if you're able to take a picture of the Coptic Orthodox Church Center in Mississauga OR St. Mark's Coptic Orthodox Church in Toronto. You can find out the street address online (the links to those websites are on the image pages). The current images are, unfortunately, copyrighted, as I was the one who uploaded them.
The current (copyrighted) images may get deleted, so if they do, then I'll need to replace them.
I need you or somebody else to take a picture, release its copyright, and upload it onto Wikipedia. I HAVE contacted others to notify them also, so if there are more than one pictures, that's OK (I can still make an article on them). I want these images to be used for, specifically, the article "Coptic Orthodox Church in Canada". The image pages are, again:

[edit]Thanks for uploading Image:Nurseryschoolme.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, their copyright should also be acknowledged.
If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 02:54, 29 October 2008 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Nv8200p talk 02:54, 29 October 2008 (UTC)

Notification of pending suspension of administrative permissions due to inactivity
[edit]Following a community discussion in June 2011, consensus was reached to provisionally suspend the administrative permissions of users who have been inactive for one year (i.e. administrators who have not made any edits or logged actions in over one year). As a result of this discussion, your administrative permissions will be removed pending your return if you do not return to activity within the next month. If you wish to have these permissions reinstated should this occur, please post to the Wikipedia:Bureaucrats' noticeboard and the userright will be restored per the re-sysopping process (i.e., as long as the attending bureaucrats are reasonably satisfied that your account has not been compromised and that your inactivity did not have the effect of evading scrutiny of any actions which might have led to sanctions). This removal of access is procedural only, and not intended to reflect negatively upon you in any way. We wish you the best in future endeavors, and thank you for your past administrative efforts. Notice of change
[edit]Hello. You are receiving this message because of a recent change to the administrator policy that alters what you were told at the time of your desysopping. The effect of the change is that if you are inactive for a continuous three year period, you will be unable to request return of the administrative user right. This includes inactive time prior to your desysopping if you were desysopped for inactivity and inactive time prior to the change in policy. Inactivity is defined as the absence of edits or logged actions. Until such time as you have been inactive for three years, you may request return of the tools at the bureaucrats' noticeboard. After you have been inactive for three years, you may seek return of the tools only through WP:RFA. Thank you. MBisanz talk 00:20, 4 December 2012 (UTC)

Hello, Shanel. I see you deleted Tim Koch; could you please restore it to User:Launchballer/Tim Koch because he is a member of Heartist (see User:Launchballer/Heartist) and there are a number of incoming links? I'm undecided what to write, whether an article, redirect or disambiguation page, but something is necessary. Thank you.--Launchballer 10:34, 2 November 2013 (UTC)
