Reverting my edit

You reverted my edit on Botswana having 20 graduates. I forgot to add a source, sorry. It’s been added, and I realized it was 22, not 20. 48JCL (talkcontribs) 12:51, 18 May 2024 (UTC)

Respectfully on the Clark Memorial Bridge....

About 5 of us have added citations stating the truck was at fault. There is video. A few cited it that police cited the driver, who had habitual offenses, cut the trucker off leading to it crashing. Is there a reason these keep being reverted? Is there a personal connection? It is in multiple articles https://www.wlky.com/article/clark-memorial-bridge-semi-crash-louisville-charges-arrest/60295903. The way this article is written, it makes it sound like the trucker was at fault. I am all for being accurate and I have no idea why I care about this issue but when I see the amount of reverts when there is ample evidence - I wonder how neutral it is. I mean this with respect, I promise. I just cannot phantom the amount of reverts and have not seen this on many other articles. All I care about is accuracy and this article is not written in a neutral manner for information that has come out. Thank you. Marc3702 (talk) 02:03, 4 June 2024 (UTC)

"About 5 of us" looks like 2 in the edit history of the subject article. Anyway, as always, the Wikipedia prefers that content is backed up with a reliable source. I reverted twice before because such was not provided at the time the additions were made. We're not allowed to synthesize or jump to conclusions; the sources have to come to any conclusions we include in the copy. I will review recent sources to see where this stands. As a long-time Wikipedian, I care about accuracy and neutrality. Given other vehicles were involved, that should be mentioned in some way, but only as far as the sources go. Of course, I'm not the only one who can make additions to the article. Whoever does just needs to ensure the added copy is backed up. Stefen Towers among the rest! GabGruntwerk 02:34, 4 June 2024 (UTC)
Done I rewrote it to cover the immediate cause of the incident (pickup crashing into semi) and that the bridge had to be closed for repairs. I don't see any necessity of adjudicating legal responsibility or going into past of the pickup driver, because this isn't a news article but rather an encyclopedia article about the bridge. I think the matter now has been given its WP:DUE weight. Stefen Towers among the rest! GabGruntwerk 05:36, 4 June 2024 (UTC)

Possible resource

Just wanted to flag this memoir of Louisville in the 1850s. I'm going to use a little in a forthcoming Matthew Garrison (slave trader) article, and I added a bit to Jim Porter (giant) but there's lots of 160-year-old gossip on murders and the 1855 Know-Nothing Riots etc. cheers. jengod (talk) 15:18, 25 June 2024 (UTC)

Jengod Thanks! Interestingly this is available on the Filson website in a more readable form (and you can do word searches and copy text from it for quotes and such). Also, you can find all their Filson Club History Quarterly articles here. And here are some Louisville area-related sources I've been compiling in WikiProject Louisville. In that, I mention Project MUSE (accessible from the Wikipedia Library) - with this, you can access practically any book published by the University Press of Kentucky, which may be of special assistance on the topic of slavery in Kentucky. Happy digging! :) Stefen Towers among the rest! GabGruntwerk 08:31, 26 June 2024 (UTC)
You're awesome. I'll link to the Filson Club one as the source. TY so much for the reference list--I'll go through with each Louisville topic I cover. Best, jengod (talk) 14:39, 26 June 2024 (UTC)

Talk page edits with AWB

Hi there! I noticed your recent edit to Talk:Al Evans with AWB. Unfortunately, the AWB developers haven't kept up with all the changes to {{WikiProject banner shell}}, so your removal of |blp=no added the page to Category:Biography articles without living parameter. When you're doing your "Talk page template cleanup for WikiProject Louisville", please be sure you're actually changing something material for the WikiProject, and not removing |blp= from the shell, even if AWB recommends it. Thanks! GoingBatty (talk) 00:59, 12 July 2024 (UTC)

Thanks. As you may know, living=no is the default, so despite my change generating that hidden category, the presentation to the reader is correct. At any rate, I will try to pay better attention when doing talk page tidying. I too wish AWB would keep up so I don't have to constantly second-guess it. Stefen Towers among the rest! GabGruntwerk 01:04, 12 July 2024 (UTC)
While I agree that the banner presentation is correct when the parameter isn't there, I don't think there's a default anymore, per the template documentation and the hidden category. GoingBatty (talk) 01:16, 12 July 2024 (UTC)
Gotcha. Stefen Towers among the rest! GabGruntwerk 01:21, 12 July 2024 (UTC)
I've been rolling back many incorrect edits that you made. Could you please use AWB to make a list of all the talk pages you edited this month that are in Category:Biography articles without living parameter and revert the rest? GoingBatty (talk) 02:21, 12 July 2024 (UTC)
Sure. I will finish my current list and then work on that. Thank you again for bringing it to my attention. I would have been delighted to fix them all but this doesn't seem like an emergency need, and you didn't ask. Stefen Towers among the rest! GabGruntwerk 02:27, 12 July 2024 (UTC)

AWB mods

Hey, I sent you email a few days ago that may help with your banner shell issue. Did you not get an email from me, or have you been too busy to address it? David Brooks (talk) 03:44, 24 July 2024 (UTC)

DavidBrooks I'm very burned out and trying not to do much here right now. But if you want me to test changes, I would oblige. Is there any reason the beta development can't be done publicly in the AWB area so others can discuss or test changes? Stefen Towers among the rest! GabGruntwerk 04:29, 24 July 2024 (UTC)

Sorry about the overwriting of the archiving bot

Hey, sorry I didn’t notice you had the same thought as I and set up the other archiving bot on the same day. I just assumed that someone tried setting up that archiving at some point and it didn’t work as I didn’t see any archive, so I set up the miszabot on top of it (which I find does have an easier to read set up for what it’s worth). In any case, we should get archiving to start tomorrow now I guess :) Raladic (talk) 02:06, 30 July 2024 (UTC)

Thanks for your note. Yeah, when the auto-archiving is first set up, it takes up to a full day for the bot to notice and drop by. Your alternative is one I've seen around, so it's quite all right. I just thought 60 days was too quick. Cheers! Stefen Towers among the rest! GabGruntwerk 02:21, 30 July 2024 (UTC)

Extra whitespace

Re this edit, I added trim in order to remove the white space between the opening parenthesis and the number, i.e. "( 430". Also, something in the database report page is introducing a </div> tag into Template:WPLouisville-Participant, which is undesirable and needs to be fixed. When I used <onlyinclude>...</onlyinclude> tags, the problem went away, but I see that updating the report removes those tags. Please figure out a way to remove that unbalanced closing tag from the Template pages. Thanks. – Jonesey95 (talk) 03:35, 14 August 2024 (UTC)

That's why I reversed your changes - the database report template removes the onlyinclude. I understand the problem in terms of why it's displaying incorrectly, but don't know yet why an extra </li></ul></div> is being placed ahead of "430". I'm working on it. Thank you for your assistance. Stefen Towers among the rest! GabGruntwerk 03:39, 14 August 2024 (UTC)
I think you found the problem, and I think I have fixed it at {{database report}}. Teamwork! – Jonesey95 (talk) 05:51, 14 August 2024 (UTC)

If you have the space, you may as well spell it out. Also, see MOS:SMALLFONT - text in infoboxes is ordinarily not shrunk. Stefen Towers among the rest! GabGruntwerk 20:08, 14 August 2024 (UTC)
I am trying to tidy the infobox as the size is unnecessary large in sections and I am trying to avoid too much clutter. ChefBear01 (talk) 20:18, 14 August 2024 (UTC)
Our guideline MOS:SMALLFONT says to avoid the kind of tidying in infoboxes that shrinks font sizes. And frankly, I think the infobox looks fine without the shrinkage. Stefen Towers among the rest! GabGruntwerk 20:20, 14 August 2024 (UTC)

Native American data

Hi Stefen, what are your opinions about new arguments raised in this discussion?:

I'll try to take a look at this on Thursday. Stefen 𝕋owers among the rest! GabGruntwerk 01:17, 5 September 2024 (UTC)
I'm not edit warring. I did not violate the three-revert rule (the guy who claimed this doesn't know how to count - I reverted something twice, not thrice). I'm not blocked from editing. There is no edit war going on so you can come and comment, you will not be a part of anyone's edit war. Domen von Wielkopolska (talk) 21:18, 5 September 2024 (UTC)
I have already made my decision. You don't seem to understand that you cannot revert back until the community discussion has arrived at conclusions and agree to particular changes. There's WP:3RR and there's also doing reverts in a game of play and I believe you are doing the latter, and I will not be associated with that. Stefen 𝕋owers among the rest! GabGruntwerk 21:21, 5 September 2024 (UTC)
So I haven't edited anything during the last two weeks. My existing edits have not been reverted. The WP US talk discussion seems to be frozen (I posted there on 5 September and since that time nobody has responded to my posts). Maybe you want to lurk there after all? Domen von Wielkopolska (talk) 07:11, 17 September 2024 (UTC)
No means no. Archiving now. Further talk about this subject will be reverted. Stefen 𝕋owers among the rest! GabGruntwerk 20:55, 17 September 2024 (UTC)
