Wikipedia:WikiProject Football/Consensus

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The following is designed to be a quick reference guide to consensus as determined at WT:FOOTBALL.

Infobox

[edit]

Club rename

[edit]
Per this discussion

For players who have played in a club which has gone though a re-naming/re-branding during the player's spell, write the most recent name, with a footnote explaining the rename.

Updating

[edit]
Per WP:LIVESCORES and this discussion

Appearances and goals should only be updated at the end of a match: no live updates.

Medals

[edit]
Per this discussion

Medals from international tournaments should be included in the infobox of players and national teams.

Brazilian league and state league

[edit]
Per this discussion

Infobox should reflect league and state league appearances and goals when stats are related to Brazilian football. Otherwise, only league apps and goals.

International career timeframe

[edit]
Per this discussion

The starting and ending years for a the timeframe of a national team in a player's infobox are, respectively, the first and last cap years. The timeframe should remain open if the player is active internationally (for example, 2015–). Once a player is removed from the recent call-ups section of their respective national team page, their timeframe in the infobox should also be closed (for example, 2015–2020).

(Note: the amount of years after which a player is removed from the recent call-ups section, which subsequently closes the player's infobox timeframe, is disputed between 1 and 2 years; see discussion)

[edit]

Club: There is a consensus to not create navigation boxes (navboxes) for squads of club teams in specific tournaments/league seasons, including champion squads (per this discussion, and these two TfD discussions).

National team: There is a consensus that national team tournament squad navboxes should only be created for the major men's and women's global competitions, and each continent's top level competition (see the following TfD discussions: example 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8). Specifically, squad navboxes should only be created for teams participating in the following tournaments:

Nationality

[edit]

Biography sections

[edit]
Per this discussion
  1. One section called "Career" if the individual has only played at club level, or has only been a manager without having been a player.
  2. Two sections called "Club career" and "International career" if the individual has played at both club and international level, without having been a manager.
  3. Two sections called "Playing career" and "Managerial career" if the individual has been both a player and a manager, without having played internationally.
  4. Three sections called "Club career", "International career", and "Managerial career" if the individual has played at both club and international level, and has been a manager.

Statistics

[edit]

"Career statistics" table

[edit]
Per this discussion

The table may adapt the structure of leagues the footballer played in. If a footballer played in the Brazilian football structure, a column named "State League" might be included, and if he/she played in the English/French football structure, a column named "League Cup" may be included, and so on.

Super Cups (such as UEFA Super Cup, Recopa Sudamericana, FA Community Shield, Russian Super Cup and so on), State Cups (such as Copa Paulista, Copa FGF and others) and the FIFA Club World Cup should be included in the "Other" column.

International tournaments (UEFA Champions League, UEFA Europa League, UEFA Conference League, Copa Libertadores, Copa Sudamericana, AFC Champions League, CAF Champions League and OFC Champions League) should appear in the "Continental" column.

Assists

[edit]
Per this discussion (and countless others)

Assists should not be listed as per WP:NOTSTATS, and also in most cases are not verifiable since they are not defined in a consistent manner, and different sources will list assists in different ways.

Position colours

[edit]
Per this discussion

The following colours should be used in tables to represent the position of a team in a competition:
  1st place
  2nd place
  3rd place
No colour should be used to represent fourth place unless being used in such a competition where a team/players receive a fourth place award. In this case,   should be used.

[edit]

Sports teams

[edit]

Please see Wikipedia:Naming conventions (sports teams).

Stadiums

[edit]

Articles on stadiums should be titled using the unsponsored names where possible. Sponsored names should only be used in cases where the stadium has only ever been known by a sponsored name (for example, the King Power Stadium).

German team names

[edit]
