If you really wanted to be non-racist you would use a neutral term like “Southern heritage”; the Confederacy was founded on slavery and inherently racist, so this box is just thinly veiled whitewashing and should be deleted as inflammatory. Dronebogus (talk) 09:58, 8 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

  • Delete per nom. As the nominator pointed out, there are neutral and acceptable ways for people in the Southern US to underline how proud they are of their ancestry (for instance, by using these two userboxes – Template:User Southern and Template:User Southern2). The nominated userbox is purely intended to be pro-Confederate, and therefore it is far from being acceptable. —Sundostund (talk) 11:56, 8 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • Speedy Keep: the nominator has proven to be ignorant of actual history and just wants to be childish.--King Bedford I Seek his grace 13:54, 8 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Personal attacks are not going to change the fact that the Confederacy was racist. Dronebogus (talk) 20:49, 8 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Facts are that it wasn't. I suggest not skipping history class. King Bedford I Seek his grace 23:35, 8 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
History class in 1950 Alabama? Alright then. Dronebogus (talk) 01:07, 9 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete - I would nominate the userbox for WP:G10 if I were certain that it qualified. That decision shall be left to an administrator. This could also be viewed as Bedford preaching upon a WP:SOAPBOX. — Jkudlick ⚓ (talk) 00:36, 9 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete, and "In all such territory the institution of negro slavery, as it now exists in the Confederate States, shall be recognized and protected be Congress and by the Territorial government;"[1] and "Our position is thoroughly identified with the institution of slavery"[2] sure sound racist to me. Sumanuil. 00:38, 9 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • Comment - @Bedford: can you explain what you mean by this user box? Are you saying the confederacy was not racist or are you saying that having ancestors or heritage in the Confederacy does not make a person racist? Iamreallygoodatcheckerst@lk 00:48, 9 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
He’s clearly just said he doesn’t think the confederacy was racist, which was just very easily proven false. Dronebogus (talk) 01:03, 9 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete - disruptive to the community and not a soapbox or a web host. Viriditas (talk) 01:14, 9 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete - This userbox is substantially divisive and appears to advocate the Lost Cause narrative. Per WP:UBCR, this advocacy is unwarranted, especially given how inflammatory (intentionally or not) the userbox is. To be clear, I am not making any statements about the motivations behind the creation of the userbox or its creator in any way, this is only a comment on the userbox itself and what its end result is. - Aoidh (talk) 01:18, 9 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete. It's both inflammatory and substantially divisive. Firefangledfeathers (talk / contribs) 01:45, 9 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

  • Comment - It's best you delete the userbox-in-question. There's some userboxes, the project will not allow. GoodDay (talk) 03:18, 9 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • Comment this was an aggressively fast, unanimous (save for creator but of course he’d say that) “delete” consensus by numerous established members of the community. I suggest WP:SNOW closing immediately. Dronebogus (talk) 05:25, 9 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
A snow close is tempting, but I'd rather see this run to minimize further baseless accusations of left-wing bias on WP. All the best, Miniapolis 13:26, 9 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

  • Delete, I just want to point out that the confederacy and United States (Union) were both involved in slavery. The difference is that the former chose to fight for their way of life. As usual, history isn't back or white as there are things that have been proven over time that were additional factors for secession. This being said... since most people find the slavery bit an issue I do not think it would be good for Wikipedia. - Knowledgekid87 (talk) 13:19, 9 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
