Adding a new AfD discussion

Keep WP:SUSTAINED Norwegian media coverage in [4] [5] [6] etc. Special:Whatlinkshere reveals an extensive career beyond what is mentioned in the low-effort article. This includes a bronze medal at the 1991 Speedway World Pairs Championship, which caused some coverage. Was one of five "talented sportspeople" covered in two NRK programs, one in 1985 and a follow-up in 1991. Expecting loads of results in Google News for a 1980s rider is a notion best left ignored. That is not an article on a sportsperson; these are not comparable, especially as bundled noms almost always fail and the keep !voters weren't even arguing to keep on GNG grounds. Comment: I've added one additional reference from a Swedish newspaper, but I've only got access to things far more recent than Gunnar Malmqvist's career at home.   That criteria can be summed up in two words - utter ******* - too overly biased on circuit racing and overly biased on multi-round championships too IMO, because the sport attracts their fanboys. As with #9, how many classes are there at the Bonneville Speed Week? How many records are up for grabs there by SCTA? Or that does not count as notability despite media talking about the cars in that event?

    A criteria for WP:NTRACK above says "Finished top 8 in a competition at the highest level outside of the Olympic Games and world championships." Keep: Clearly notable because he competed in the final of the Speedway World Cup, the sport's pinnacle AND reached the final of the Speedway individual world championship. Note: I can't express the importance of being a participant in the speedway world final and world cup final. I have since asked for motorsports notability to cover speedway which I do not think it does at present and therefore does not help give editors an understanding of the sport's main competitions. The importance of participating in these events is completely irrelevant when the actual notability criterion the subject must meet is GNG. The sport-specific guidelines function to guide editors toward choosing to write on athletes who are likely to have SIGCOV, but that SIGCOV still must be found and cited in the article before it is published. I agree with this criteria but unfortunately, the motorsport Wikiproject is far too biased towards circuit racing. Look at their annual "list of motorsport champions", too biased toward car racing. Motorcycle racing gets squeezed into a single box like it has no importance. 2nd or lower tier formula racing, not a problem despite they mostly take place, watched by almost nobody.

Lest not forget, if this bio gets deleted, I'll hold one of my recent AfD nomination (Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/2024 Sakhir Formula 3 round) as an example of Wikipedia's flawed notability guidelines for that "strong and well-presented arguments" deletion rationale vs number of keep votes, Wikipedia chose vote numbers. The point is, for some 'random wordpress dude' to be able to write a 3,000 word feature story about someone from 50 years prior in the offline era, there is almost assuredly coverage in the first place for one to have the capacity to write something like that. I reckon I could write 3000 words on a non-notable athlete pretty easily. Archival tapes, event reports, and free time all exist. That a fan of speedway is able to write a lot about speedway doesn't mean he's using sources that would be acceptable on Wikipedia. Note: The Olympic Games are not the sports pinnacle, there is no speedway at the Olympic Games as is the case for numerous other sports. For information the pinnacle of speedway is the World Individual championships (now called the Grand Prix) and the World Cup. Draftify. Competing or even winning at the pinnacle of a sport, whether Grand Prix or Olympics, is not a valid inclusion criterion. SPORTCRIT requires GNG be met and for a GNG-contributing source to be cited in the article. Comment: The Czech version cs:Bedřich Slaný of the article says (without a reference) that he died on 11 October 1980. Perhaps a news article about him or an obituary in a reliable source was published shortly after his death. Someone with access to Czechoslovak news media from 1980 might want to search for references from October 1980. The Wikipedia Library would also be worth searching. Of course, I meant in general that if for Olympic sports the participation of an athlete in the Olympics is not a criterion of notability, the participation of a speedway racer in the Speedway World Cup is also not a criterion of notability. The sources you have added here and elsewhere do not demonstrate notability according to Wikipedia criteria.

He's mentioned a number of times on Hungarian newspaper archive Arcanum – after he died an international race was named in his honor: "Druhý ročník Memoriálu Bedřicha Slaného je dalším významným mezinárodním závodem" [The second year of the Bedřich Slaného Memorial is another important international race].
