Discussion originally in collapse box[edit]

  1. Neutral leaning toward oppose Sorry I don't want "inactive with low experience do want admins who can spend more time for Wikipedia with more experience. Your edit count "6800" is pretty low in "my expectation" given that your activity began in 2005. I don't see any "strong needs" as to why you should have to tools.clarified, satisfied?-Caspian blue 22:13, 10 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
His contribution levels have been fairly consistent for over a year now, so can you clarify what inspires your prediction that he will become an "inactive admin"? Also, not to undermine anyone's contributions to the project, but I would much rather see individual contributions as opposed to massive amounts of automated or assisted edits. Quality, not quantity, you know?   user:j    (aka justen)   22:21, 10 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, however what good would you get from such unwarranted lecturing about what I have to perceive the candidate's contribution or to how I have to follow your view? Quantity is also an important factor to become an admin.--Caspian blue 22:33, 10 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
He's asking you to expand on your assertion that the candidate would make an "inactive admin" - I think that's reasonable considering Kotra is averaging over 300 edits a month. Wisdom89 (T / C) 22:36, 10 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I got the impression from his self-nom statement. Enough? Moreover, he is a rollbacker, so his contribution may include "massive amounts of automated or assisted edits". --Caspian blue 22:40, 10 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
To anyone curious: I've just checked all 6698 of kotra's live edits and found that none of them were done with Huggle, Twinkle, or AWB (unless the notice was suppressed in the edit summary). -- Soap Talk/Contributions 23:04, 10 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
The only assisted editing tool I've used is rollback. I'm not sure how many rollback actions I've made, but it's not a huge amount. -kotra (talk) 23:10, 10 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
As someone who has amassed a "mere" 8,600 or so edits (if you include my first non-unified account) in nearly five and a half years of editing and someone who has been an admin for about three and a half years, I'm not convinced that someone's number of edits versus how long they've been on the site is an accurate judge of how they'd be as an administrator. That's just my two cents, coming from someone who is largely from the same group as far as edit count goes. One (talk) 05:36, 11 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Policy knowledge explanation[edit]

I think there is some misunderstanding about my answers to Q1 and Q8. When I say things like "I want to get a better feel for underlying policies and guidelines before I use the tools", I am not saying I don't currently understand the policies or what the tools are for. I merely am saying that whenever I use such potentially damaging tools as admin tools, I want to be absolutely sure it's right; so I will double check that I know all the nuances of policy and practice before I start hitting buttons. There are many different areas admins are needed (article deletion, miscellany for deletion, username changing,([1]) username blocks, vandalism blocks, requested moves, wikiquette enforcement, arbcom enforcement, page protection, sockpuppet investigation assistance, blacklist maintenance, just to name a few), and it's impossible for anyone, even the most active and experienced admin, to have comprehensive and up-to-date understanding of all the nuances of all of them, especially when they're just starting out as an admin. That is all I meant: I want to make sure I have comprehensive understanding in a given area before I use admin tools in that area.

If anyone is worried about my policy knowledge or participation in administrator areas, they are welcome to ask me questions or look over my contributions at WP:RFCN, WP:ANI, WP:AIV, WP:AFD, etc.

I don't want to badger opposers with this explanation, and I don't think it's appropriate to change my answer at this point, so I've placed the explanation here... hope that's kosher. -kotra (talk) 06:31, 11 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks[edit]

My thanks to everyone who participated. I will do my best to use the tools responsibly, as promised. I was surprised at the relative lack of the drama I had come to expect from the RfA process. I won't be giving out thankspam, but I sincerely appreciate the time the community spent evaluating my candidacy. Thanks again. -kotra (talk) 03:15, 18 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hey, we tried our best to give you a little bit of gender drama.  :-) Congrats.Ferrylodge (talk) 03:20, 18 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
