Azerbaijan and the European Union

Azerbaijan and the European Union - Its irritated me for a while that this was the only 'XXXX and the EU' article still red-linked, so I created a basic starter article today, but it needs huge amounts of work (though it's already larger than than the Georgia version). Any help, especially on the sections of public opinion, would be much appreciated. Grunners (talk) 16:20, 12 February 2008 (UTC)

Footballers

Hi, a user who is now banned created an indescriminate load of football players from Azerbaijan (see User:Mario1987/Football_players#Azerbaijan), as with most of his contributions the profiles are incomplete, inaccurate and often about non-notable footballers. I have made the first three articles in the list look almost OK, I hope someone here has the time and inclination to make the others more presentable. Regards, English peasant 20:41, 28 March 2008 (UTC)

I'll do what I can, though I don't speak Azerbaijani or Russian, so the English resources for these guys are limited.--Friejose (talk) 15:53, 3 July 2008 (UTC)

Film editors wanted

WikiProject Films has solicited interest in creating a Soviet/CIS cinema task force. We'd like to cordially welcome all regular editors of these articles to voice their interest in starting this task force so as to see if there is sufficient support. Many thanks! Help with azerbaijan cities/towns/villages and their disambiguation.

Greetings! There is a proposal to organize a bot in order to create thousands upon thousands (if not eventually -- a million) articles related to villages/towns/cities from around the world. Azerbaijan is also a part of this and there is a list of places from Azerbaijan found here: Wikipedia:WikiProject Missing encyclopedic articles/Places/azerbaijan. Currently however, before the project can begin, the list of places need to be checked for disambiguation. That is, there are some blue links already created and they need to be checked to ensure that they are in fact already the created cityand not a disambiguation page. This is needed as the bot will not be able to create the place if there is already a blue link and if its a disambiguation page, then that place (be it a city, village or town) will miss out. That is why I ask anyone here from this project who has some time or knowledge of Azerbaijan to have a look and help if they want in any way they can. As a side note, there is also a discussion going on here at the village pump: Wikipedia:Village pump (proposals)/FritzpollBot and you are more than welcome to state your views on it. There is also a FAQ that you may have a look at User:FritzpollBot/FAQ but if you have any question do get in contact with Fritzpoll here User talk:Fritzpoll or with Biofield here User talk:Blofeld of SPECTRE. Kind regards.Calaka (talk) 04:38, 3 June 2008 (UTC)

Changes to the WP:1.0 assessment scheme

As you may have heard, we at the Wikipedia 1.0 Editorial Team recently made some changes to the assessment scale, including the addition of a new level. The new description is available at WP:ASSESS.

  • The new C-Class represents articles that are beyond the basic Start-Class, but which need additional references or cleanup to meet the standards for B-Class.
  • The criteria for B-Class have been tightened up with the addition of a rubric, and are now more in line with the stricter standards already used at some projects.
  • A-Class article reviews will now need more than one person, as described here.

Each WikiProject should already have a new C-Class category at Category:C-Class_articles. If your project elects not to use the new level, you can simply delete your WikiProject's C-Class category and clarify any amendments on your project's assessment/discussion pages. The bot is already finding and listing C-Class articles.

Please leave a message with us if you have any queries regarding the introduction of the revised scheme. This scheme should allow the team to start producing offline selections for your project and the wider community within the next year. Thanks for using the Wikipedia 1.0 scheme! Articles flagged for cleanup

Currently, 849 articles are assigned to this project, of which 159, or 18.7%, are flagged for cleanup of some sort. (Data as of 14 July 2008.) Are you interested in finding out more? I am offering to generate cleanup to-do lists on a project or work group level. See User:B. Wolterding/Cleanup listings for details. More than 150 projects and work groups have already subscribed, and adding a subscription for yours is easy - just place a template on your project page.

If you want to respond to this canned message, please do so at my user talk page; I'm not watching this page. --B. Wolterding (talk) 18:22, 2 August 2008 (UTC)

Soviet and post-Soviet films task force

Just thought that the community would like to know that WikiProject Films has a established a Soviet and post-Soviet cinema task force. Interested editors are encouraged to join onboard! Thanks, Girolamo Savonarola (talk) 21:44, 20 August 2008 (UTC)

Thank you

I know I'm misusing this project page, but I want to express my gratitude towards many many Azerbaijanis who have lent huge moral support to me personally and the Georgian people in general during the days of war and ongoing occupation. I wish you all peace and prosperity.--KoberTalk 05:34, 26 August 2008 (UTC)

Thank you very much. I also wish peace and prosperity and all the best to your country and people. Grandmaster (talk) 06:37, 26 August 2008 (UTC)
Thanks to you too, GM. I really appreciate your kind words.--KoberTalk 18:05, 27 August 2008 (UTC)

Bələdiyyələrin siyahısı

I found this website http://www.belediyye.org that lists thousands of villages in Azerbaijan, gives the name of each village's sədr, and sometimes other details about the village. Is it useful? Phlegm Rooster (talk) 20:43, 28 August 2008 (UTC)

Wikipedia 0.7 articles have been selected for Azerbaijan

Wikipedia 0.7 is a collection of English Wikipedia articles due to be released on DVD, and available for free download, later this year. The Wikipedia:Version 1.0 Editorial Team has made an automated selection of articles for Version 0.7.

We would like to ask you to review the articles selected from this project. These were chosen from the articles with this project's talk page tag, based on the rated importance and quality. If there are any specific articles that should be removed, please let us know at Wikipedia talk:Version 0.7. You can also nominate additional articles for release, following the procedure at Wikipedia:Release Version Nominations.

A list of selected articles with cleanup tags, sorted by project, is available. The list is automatically updated each hour when it is loaded. Please try to fix any urgent problems in the selected articles. A team of copyeditors has agreed to help with copyediting requests, although you should try to fix simple issues on your own if possible.

We would also appreciate your help in identifying the version of each article that you think we should use, to help avoid vandalism or POV issues. These versions can be recorded at this project's subpage of User:SelectionBot/0.7. We are planning to release the selection for the holiday season, so we ask you to select the revisions before October 20. At that time, we will use an automatic process to identify which version of each article to release, if no version has been manually selected. Thanks! Maps

An ongoing discussion that is taking place, might have an affect on Azerbaijani articles. VartanM (talk) 01:43, 1 October 2008 (UTC)

Based on a search of Wikipedia's articles related to Azerbaijan, I've found some articles that I believe are about places in Azerbaijan, and could usefully have geographical coordinates added.

The articles in question are listed in Category:Azerbaijan articles missing geocoordinate data. At the time of writing, some examples included:

  1. Agdam Rayon
  2. Agsu Rayon
  3. Baku Metro
  4. Dashkasan Rayon
  5. Eldar Pine State Reserve
  6. Mardakert
  7. Parigala

...and there are many more, as well. At the time of posting this notice, there were 100 articles in this category needing geographical coordinates.

Meaning GPS coordinates or longitude/latttitude? In both cases, it would be hard to get them, unless I do not know something others know. Chartography departments or military must have them, but I do not know if they are willing to share this information. --Aynabend (talk) 18:03, 24 October 2008 (UTC)

Why add coordinates?

By adding coordinates, a Wikipedia reader can easily view the location on a street map, nautical chart, topographic map, by satellite photo, realtime weather map, and in many other ways. Coordinate data makes an article eventually appear in various services such as Google Maps' Wikipedia overlay, Google Earth, and Wikipedia's own internal map service. Coordinate data also helps readers looking for geographically-based data, such as locations near a reference point, or related information.

How can I do it?

The articles are all marked with {{coord missing}} tags, which need to be replaced with {{coord}} tags that contain the location's latitude/longitude coordinates; or you might be able to add coordinates to an existing infobox. You can find out how to do this at the Wikipedia:Geocoding how-to for WikiProject members. Please let me know if this is useful, or if you have any questions! -- The Anome (talk) 09:33, 24 October 2008 (UTC)

Re-categorization of cities, towns and villages in Azerbaijan

Hi all -- I noticed that the category for cities towns and villages in Azerbaijan contains more than 5,900 articles. I am considering creating categories for cities towns and villages in each province, and filing the articles under those. This should make the articles easier to find and use. Do you think this is a good idea? I'd like comments from you before I start working on it. Aelfthrytha (talk) 19:43, 18 December 2008 (UTC)

OK by me. Also, beware User:Meowy, an anti-Azeri POV pusher is roundly criticizing having stub articles on Azeri places particularly in places like Armenian-occupied areas and may try to delete all places in Azerbaijan. Stay tuned. Carlossuarez46 (talk) 19:19, 5 January 2009 (UTC)

Yes, I think such categorizing is a good idea. Grandmaster 06:00, 7 January 2009 (UTC)
While you are at it, please fix all the missorted articles by putting in a proper DEFAULTSORT: magic word. There is no excuse whatsoever for the current situation, with thousands of articles hidden away in oblivion and unfindable. Gene Nygaard (talk) 15:46, 14 January 2009 (UTC)
BTW, I think such over-categorization in general is a bad idea. There is no reason why someone should have to know what province an Azerbaijan village is in, to be able to find it in a category.
That isn't a big category; existing category navigation tools make even the really big ones such as Category:Living people with one-third of a million members, 56 times as many as here, quite usable. Gene Nygaard (talk) 15:53, 14 January 2009 (UTC)
Hi everybody -- I created List of Azerbaijani companies, could anybody help me to expand that article? User:Alakbaroff 11:38, February 2009 (UTC)

Hi -- I've finished the recategorization at last, after two months and probably 5,000 edits. However, there are still a bunch of cities, towns, and villages in Baku and Nakhchivan which don't fall into the Rayon categories. How do you think those should be handled? Please leave me a note on my usertalk if you reply -- I don't always remember to check back here. Aelfthrytha (talk) 05:00, 11 March 2009 (UTC)
