Shinhidaka (新しんひだか) is a town in Hidaka Subprefecture, Hokkaido.

Understand

On 2006, the town of Mitsuishi (三石みついし町まち) merged with the town of Shizunai (静内しずない町まち) to create the new town of Shinhidaka. Shizunai is the largest town in the Subprefecture.

Nijikken-dōro

• 1 Nijikken-dōro (二に十じゅう間あいだ道路どうろ). 24hours. Best time to see at Early May. This 120-foot-wide avenue, lined with Ezo mountain cherry trees listed as one of Japan's top 100 cherry blossom spots, is the major attraction here. Free. 
• Ainu Museum (新しんひだか町まちアイヌ民俗みんぞく資料しりょう館かん), 7-1 Shizunaimauta, Shinhidaka (新しんひだか町まち静内しずない真歌まうた7-1) (In Mauta Park), ☏ +81146433094. Tu-Su 9AM-5PM. A small museum of Japan's aboriginal people. Free. (updated Feb 2023)

Do

If you go to mountains, in spring and summer, you can see cherry blossoms. Due to the latitude and climate, the trees blossom later than in the rest of Japan. This can be beneficial if you have arrived in Japan after the main cherry blossom season. Fishing, camping, and hiking are popular. In winter, you can see many swans in the Shibechari River.
