Etymology
Clipping of Ogeechee.. From the Ogeechee River, a river in South Carolina, where this West African derived community settled. From Ogeechee, from the Muskogee language term meaning "river of the Uchees", from Creek Uchee, the Muskogee Creek name for the Yuchi people (an exonym provided by the Creek) [1]
