- (IPA, dated) a low falling–rising tone.
- (UPA) less rounded vowel, delabialized consonant (IPA ◌̜), e.g. oˬ, šˬ.
Usage notes
[edit](IPA tone): The mark is placed before the word or syllable that bears the tone. This sense is effectively obsolete, having been replaced by Chao tone letters and tone diacritics.
