Inherited from Prakrit 𑀨𑀮 (phala), from Ashokan Prakrit 𑀨𑀮 (phala), from Sanskrit फल (phala), borrowed from Proto-Dravidian *paẓam. Cognate with Gujarati ફળ (phaḷ), Hindi फल (phal), Nepali फल (phal), Odia ଫଳ (phaḷa), Marwari फळ (phaḷ). Related with फळणे (phaḷṇe).
