1. 何なに: interrogative pronoun; what
   • c. late 9th-mid-10th century, Taketori Monogatari:

     これを見みて、舟ふねより下おりて、「山やまの名なを何なに（なに）とか申さる」と問とえふ。女おんな答こたえへていはく、「これは蓬よもぎ萊の山やまなり」と答こたえふ。

     Seeing this, having gotten off the ship, he asked "What do you call this mountain?" The woman answered, "This is the Hōrai mountain".

   • c. late 9th-mid-10th century, Taketori Monogatari:

     なに仰おおせる。いま金きんすこしにこそあなれ。かならずをくるべき物ものにこそあなれ。
