[edit]Adjective
[edit]LGB
- (sometimes offensive) Initialism of lesbian, gay, bisexual.
- 2019 October 24, Olivia Petter, quoting Josh Alex Cairo, “‘LGB Alliance’ group faces criticism for being transphobic”, in The Independent[1]:
- There is no LGB movement. Not one that doesn't stand side by side with trans people. Speaking as a bisexual guy, no less is acceptable, and you definitely don't speak for me. […]
- 2021 September 2, Shon Faye, The Transgender Issue, →ISBN:
- Having both cis LGB and trans friends, I know well that some families will accept a gay child but refuse to accept a trans one: the change in names, pronouns and physicality is simply too overwhelming for them to embrace.
- 2022 September 14, Lily Wakefield, quoting LGB Alliance, “LGB Alliance: Anti-trans lobby group’s troubling, ugly history”, in Pink News[2]:
- Adding the + to LGB gives the green light to paraphilias like bestiality - & more - to all be part of one big happy "rainbow family". Wake up policy makers. LGB people refuse to be used in your artificial & dangerous argument that we must all be lumped together #NoToHomophobia
Usage notes
[edit]- In recent years, LGB has come to be used to intentionally exclude transgender people. Sometimes this is by people who intend to exclude trans people from the queer community in general (such as the LGB Alliance), and sometimes it simply indicates that trans people are not in the group being discussed (e.g. "transphobia among cis LGB people").

- (Internet slang, US politics) Initialism of let's go, Brandon.
- [2021 December 27, Proud Progressive, “Democrat Rep. Eric Swalwell Blasts Pathetic Dad Who Said Lets Go Brandon to Biden”, in comp.os.linux.advocacy[3] (Usenet):
- " […] The congressman who had an alleged affair with a Chinese spy for several years and inexplicably still sits on the House Intelligence and Homeland Security Committees jumped to Twitter on Christmas Day to attack the Oregon father who delivered the LGB joke during the White House holiday call."]
- 2022 January 5, “NASCAR rejects ‘Let’s Go Brandon’ sponsorship”, in RT[5]:
- Unfortunately for Brown, the reaction was negative. Despite being a rising NASCAR star, he said it became “extremely difficult” to attract sponsors because major corporations saw his unintentional association with the LGB meme to be divisive.
- 2024 March 15, Jemima Kelly, “How the least divided place in America feels about Trump's return”, in Financial Review[7], archived from the original on 9 April 2024:
- The gift shop is rammed. [...] I'm slightly surprised to see an "LGB" clutch above the till, until I realise it stands for "Let’s Go Brandon", code for "Fuck Joe Biden"[.]
