• Entry layout (EL) is a detailed policy on Wiktionary's page formatting; all entries must conform to it. The easiest way to start off is to copy the contents of an existing same-language entry, and then adapt it to fit the entry you are creating.

• Our Criteria for Inclusion (CFI) defines exactly which words can be added to Wiktionary; the most important part is that Wiktionary only accepts words that have been in somewhat widespread use over the course of at least a year, and citations that demonstrate usage can be asked for when there is doubt.

kanjitab request

Hey, could you add the readings of kanji when you add kanjitabs? I'd really appreciate it if you did, since it adds categories and is just in general common practice. It also gives the minimal etymological information for the entries that don't have etymologies (i.e. if it's native Japanese or Chinese-derived). Even if you're not sure what exact yomi type it is, it's still better to at least add what the kanji are read as. lattermint (talk) 00:34, 5 April 2024 (UTC)

Thanks, appreciate it! Another couple of small things I'd like to suggest for when cleaning up Japanese entries is adding "to" to each verb in verb definition lines when they don't have it and adding "|clearright=y" to misaligned kanjitabs (when they are too close to each other and so the lower one is to the left of the upper one, though I think this is only visible on PC). Also, if you have an iPhone or other Apple device, you can download the Daijirin dictionary through the settings which you then can use through Spotlight to look up pitch accent of words to add to entries. lattermint (talk) 03:21, 6 April 2024 (UTC)

You got it on the verbs, I'll keep a lookout.

The |clearright=y is a bit more tedious for me, as I have custom CSS that automatically floats and clears right my kanji-tables (that is to say, there is no misalignment) on both PC and mobile. I would have to disable it each time to check how it looks, but I'm more than willing to do so when I'm on PC! And once I'm able to better visualize how everything usually looks, I'll be able to accurately add |clearright=y from mobile as well.

Oh, sorry, I wasn't talking about the App Store one, iOS actually has in-built dictionaries downloadable through the settings! You've got to go to "General" -> "Dictionary" to get them and then use the search function (Spotlight) to look up terms. It also has a bunch of dictionaries for other languages, so I definitely recommend it. lattermint (talk) 21:04, 6 April 2024 (UTC)
