[edit]From Proto-Iranian *Hāwyám (compare Persian خایه (xâye), Ossetian айк (ajk), Avestan 𐬀𐬉𐬨 (aēm)), from Proto-Indo-Iranian *Hāwyám, from Proto-Indo-European *h₂ōwyóm (“egg”) (compare Armenian ձու (ju), English egg, Italian uovo, Russian яйцо́ (jajcó)).
