[edit]From Malay pantas (“quick; fast; skilled; experienced”), from Classical Malay pantas, from Old Javanese pantĕs (“fitting, appropriate; in accordance with all the rules”). Semantic loan from Javanese ꦥꦤ꧀ꦠꦼꦱ꧀ (pantes, “appropriate”).
