[edit]From Proto-Turkic *yogrut (“curdled, coagulated milk”),[1] from *yogur- (“to knead, to fluff up, to condense”) + *-ut.[2][3] By surface analysis, yoğur- (“to knead”) + -t.

[edit]Inherited from Ottoman Turkish یوغورت, from Proto-Turkic *yogrut (“curdled, coagulated milk”),[1] from *yogur- (“to knead, to fluff up, to condense”) + *-ut,[2][3] equivalent to yoğur- (“to knead”) + -t. Cognate with Old Uyghur 𐽶𐽳𐽲𐽾𐽳𐾀 (yogrut, “yoghurt”).
