According to the flavor text, the "undersize signals intelligence satellite reads: Warning: Dish is FRAGILE; it is NOT for use in the atmosphere...

Shock and amazement when I de-orbited with it unfurled and it made it all the way to the ground in one piece.

That can happen, the breaking force is calculated based on the orientation of the dish with respective to your direction through the atmosphere. It's also possible that the breaking force needs tweaking.
