.SH NAME
jfbterm.conf \- configuration file for jfbterm(1)
.\" =======================================================================
.SH DESCRIPTION
This manual page documents briefly the
.B jfbterm.conf
configuration file that is used in
.BR jfbterm (1)
command.
.\" =======================================================================
.SH CONFIGURATIONS
The format of an entry for this file is:
.TP
\fIentryName\fP : \fIvalue\fP
.PP
If `+' is at beginning of the line, \fIvalue\fP is added to
\fIentryName\fP as an array. This means that one \fIentryName\fP
can have multiple \fIvalue\fPs.
.PP
A summary of configrations is included below.
.TP
.\" -----------------------------------------------------------------------
.B term
TERM environment variable's value for a program that runs in
.BR jfbterm (1).
The default is \fBjfbterm\fR.
.TP
.\" -----------------------------------------------------------------------
.B fontset
This assigns a font for each character set. A term "character set"
means a set of characters and is an element for "encodings".
In other words, an encoding consists from one or more character
sets. In jfbterm, most of character sets are assumed to have
ISO\-2022\-compliant structure, i.e., a character set contains
94 characters, 96 characters, 94^N characters, or 96^N characters.
\fBiso10646.1\fR is the only exception.
.IP
The format of \fBfontset\fP value is:
.nf
\fIcharsetName\fP,\fItype\fP,\fIside\fP,\fIfontname\fP
.fi
You can see a list of available \fIcharsetName\fPs by
running "jfbterm \-\-help".
.IP
\fItype\fP specifies "pcf" or "alias". If \fItype\fP is "pcf",
\fIfontname\fP is a pathname of a font file. If \fItype\fP is "alias",
\fIfontname\fP specifies another \fIcharsetName\fP, which means that
the character set of \fIcharsetName\fP will use the same font to
the character set of \fIfontname\fP.
.IP
\fIside\fP specifies in which side (GL or GR) the font has glyphs for
the character set, in terms of ISO\-2022. \fBL\fR means GL (0x20\-0x7f)
and \fBR\fR means GR (0xa0\-0xff). A unique specification, \fBU\fR,
is used only for \fRiso10646.1\fR.
.IP
For example, \fBiso8859.1\-1987\fR is a character set which contains
96 characters.
The glyphs for iso8859.1\-1987 characters are available in GR side of
*\-iso8859\-1 fonts.
.TP
.\" -----------------------------------------------------------------------
.B encoding
This defines an encoding. An encoding is what you really use
to express texts and consists from one or more character sets.
In jfbterm, most of encodings are defined as ISO\-2022's initial
state and jfbterm can change character sets by using ISO\-2022
escape sequences. However, non\-ISO\-2022\-compliant encodings
such as Big5 and KOI8\-R are also supported via \fBiconv\fR(3).
.IP
The format of \fBencoding\fP value is
.nf
locale
or
\fIencodingName\fP
or
\fIGL\fP,\fIGR\fP,\fIG0\fP,\fIG1\fP,\fIG2\fP,\fIG3\fP
.fi
If \fBencoding\fP value is "locale" (the first case), then
\fIencodingName\fP value is initialized by the current LC_CTYPE
locale ("locale \-k charmap") and falling into the second case.
.IP
If no `,' is found in \fBencoding\fP value, it is recognized as
\fIencodingName\fP (the second case). If the \fIencodingName\fR
matches one of \fBencoding.\fIencodingName\fR which is explained
below, this definition is used. Otherwise, if the \fIencodingName\fR
matches one of valid encoding names for \fBiconv\fR(1) or
\fBiconv_open\fR(3), \fBjfbterm\fR will work in UTF\-8 mode internally.
This means that the font defined by \fBfontset:iso10646.1\fR line will
be used and \fBiconv\fR(3) will be used to emulate the given
\fIencodingName\fR. This behavior is just as if there is a line:
.nf
encoding.\fIencodingName\fP : other,\fIencodingName\fR,iconv,UTF\-8
.fi
This mechanism enables \fBjfbterm\fR to support various
encodings which are not ISO\-2022\-compliant.
.IP
If a `,' is found in \fBencoding\fR value, it is recognized as
the third case. This format defines an encoding as an ISO\-2022
initial state. \fIGL\fR and \fIGR\fR specifies a slot (one of
\fBG0\fR, \fBG1\fR, \fBG2\fR, or \fBG3\fR) which is invoked into
GL (0x20\-0x7F) and GR (0xA0\-0xFF).
\fIG0\fR, \fIG1\fR, \fIG2\fR, and \fIG3\fR specifies the character
set which is designated into the corresponding slot.
.IP
The default is "locale".
.TP
.\" -----------------------------------------------------------------------
.BI encoding. encodingName
This defines an encoding of \fIencodingName\fP as an ISO\-2022
initial state, like the third case of \fBencoding\fR item which
is explained already. The format is like following:
.nf
\fIGL\fP,\fIGR\fP,\fIG0\fP,\fIG1\fP,\fIG2\fP,\fIG3\fP
or
UTF\-8,iso10646.1
or
other,\fIencodingName\fP,iconv,\fIinternal\-encodingName\fP
.fi
The first case is just same as explained in the third case of
\fBencoding\fR item.
.IP
The second case means that the encoding is UTF\-8. This is a
special case.
.IP
The third case defines an encoding as a conversion of an other
encoding. \fBjfbterm\fR will use the encoding of
\fIinternal\-encodingName\fP internally and will use \fBiconv\fR(3)
for conversion.
.IP
Note that, in the third case, \fIinternal\-encodingName\fR must be a valid
encoding name which is defined in other \fBencoding.\fIencodingName\fR
line (which has the first or second format). Both of
\fIinternal\-encodingName\fR and \fIencodingName\fR must be valid
encoding names for \fBiconv\fR(1) or \fBiconv_open\fR(3).
Also, Both \fIencodingName\fRs (one is a part of
\fBencoding.\fIencodingName\fR and the another appears next
to "other,") must be same.
.TP
.\" -----------------------------------------------------------------------
.B color.gamma
Color gamma value. The default is 1.7.
