News Sources: Home

The Columbia University Libraries provide access to thousands of news sources, current and historical, from all over the world. This guide offers an overview of how to search and browse for newspapers, magazines, and other media sources. Please contact journalism@library.columbia.edu (or your library subject specialist) with questions about accessing or researching news.

Most of the resources listed here are available only to current Columbia students, faculty, and staff. Those labeled as unlocked  are open access and are freely available. Columbia alumni should see the Library Resources for Alumni page.

All-Access Subscriptions

Current Columbia students, faculty, and staff can access free digital subscriptions to the following publications:

  • The Atlantic NEW!
Log in with your Columbia UNI for full access to TheAtlantic.com (no account required). See The Atlantic FAQ for more information.

  • Financial Times
Register with your Columbia email for a personal digital subscription.

  • The New York Times
Register with any email address for a personal digital subscription. This academic subscription does not include premium features (The Athletic, Cooking, Games, or Wirecutter). See the NYT FAQ for more information.

  • The Wall Street Journal
Register with your Columbia email for a personal digital subscription. See the WSJ FAQ for more information.

With these digital subscriptions, read the news from the publication’s own website and app (like you had purchased a subscription, but provided by the Libraries!).

All other news sources can be found through the library catalog, CLIO. Explore the other tabs of this guide to find additional publications and learn how to access news sources.
