Awal
Ia lahir dan dibesarkan di Shaker Heights, Ohio keturunan Polandia, Jerman, Austria, dan Russia. Ia belajar menggambar dan melukis di Northwestern University, mengikuti tahun-tahun kuliahnya dengan menjalankan tugas sebagai guru seni, penulis skenario, dan karyawan galeri seni.
