Abstract

A Hotelling-keretrendszer (1929) napjainkban is igen sikeres. Ennek ellenére néhány feltevése nem magától értetődő, például az, hogy a háztartásokat csak rezervációs áruk jellemzi. Ebből adódóan a háztartások viselkedését egy Cobb-Douglas-féle hasznossági függvénnyel definiáljuk. Ez a fogyasztóknak egy folytonos és elasztikus egyéni keresleti függvényt eredményez, valamint egyéb új mechanizmusokat is hoz a modellbe, amelyekre a szakirodalom már korábban felhívta a figyelmet. Mindezek eredményeként egyrészt a jövedelem változója játssza a rezervációs ár szerepét, korlátozza az árakat. Másrészt a jövedelem és az árak befolyásolják a közömbös fogyasztó elhelyezkedését, aminek a hatása több csatornán keresztül érvényesül. Az új modell lényegében nem tér el a korábbi eredményektől. Ha a jövedelem és a szállítási költség aránya magas, akkor a piac közepén lévő Bertrand-verseny az egyetlen egyensúly. Ha túl alacsony, akkor a vállalatok monopóliumként viselkedhetnek. E mellett a két lehetőség mellett van még egy harmadik is, ahol a vállalatok egymással versenyeznek, de elég piaci erejük van az árakat a határköltség felett tartani.* Journal of Economic Literature (JEL) kód: L10, R10.
