Composición de la economía de la región nororiente de Colombia

Abstract

La región Nororiente conformada por los departamentos de Santander, Boyacá, Norte de Santander y Arauca comprende algo más de la onceava parte del territorio nacional y más de una novena parte de la población del país; además, en promedio durante los últimos diez anos contribuyó con el 12,0% del PIB colombiano. La región pasó de una economía primaria en la década de los sesenta para luego caracterizarse por la predominancia del sector servicios, no obstante, en los últimos anos la industria y la construcción se convirtieron en ejes fundamentales para el crecimiento del PIB. Santander concentra más de la mitad del producto regional debido a la cuota del sector secundario, especialmente en la fabricación de productos de la refinación del petróleo y a las actividades relacionadas con los servicios. Por su parte, mientras que en Boyacá y Norte de Santander predomina el sector terciario, en Arauca la actividad primaria es la más relevante. Cabe senalar que las disparidades económicas existentes por razones geográficas marcan un diferencial en la conformación de la economía de la región, que individualmente son necesarias para encadenar procesos productivos y de esta forma generar espacios de desarrollo.
