Derek Walcott
Derek Alton Walcott (23. janúar 1930) er eitt helsta ljóðskáld enskrar tungu á ofanverðri 20. öld. Hann er einnig leikritahöfundur, leikstjóri og hefur auk þess getið sér gott orð sem listmálari. Derek hlaut Nóbelsverðlaunin í bókmenntum árið 1992.
Derek Walcott fæddist í Castries á Sankti Lúsíu í Karíbahafi. Árið 1949 fór hann í framhaldsnám til Jamaíku og nam þar ensku, frönsku og latínu. Derek stofnaði Trinidad Theater Workshop á eyjunni Trínidad tíu árum seinna, en þar frumsýndi hann leikverk sín á árum áður. Derek hefur kennt skapandi skrif við Boston háskólann (BU) síðustu ár.
Þekktustu ljóðabækur hans eru t.d. hið epíska verk Omeros, sem er yfir 300 blaðsíður, The Star-Apple Kingdom og Another Life sem fjallar um æsku hans á Sankti Lúsíu.
