What is your role at Boeing?

I’m a Boeing Test & Evaluation Design Engineer Intern working in Experimental Hardware Design for propulsion applications, including lab, ground, and flight tests.

How did you hear about our internships?

I have friends who work at Boeing, and they told me how much they enjoy their jobs and the company. This is my second internship at Boeing. The first one was an amazing experience, and so I jumped at the opportunity to intern again this summer.

What excites you the most about Boeing’s mission?

I value the constant drive to create a better product through better engineering, and being a part of the Experimental Design team allows me to work with people who feel the same way.

How does your work contribute to product safety and quality?

My work directly contributes to the safety and quality of Boeing aircraft, both commercial and military, through the design of experimental hardware focusing on improving various aspects, including safety, engine performance, and more.

What has been your favorite experience so far?

Getting a detailed tour of the lightning, electromagnetic, and radar labs has been really insightful. It is incredible how much time and effort are put into researching each and every aspect of the aircraft to make it better.

In what ways do you feel supported by your team?

We have open conversations as a group every day to ensure that I understand the work I need to do, the resources available to me, and receive immediate feedback and answers to any questions I may have.

I am still in the process of writing my thesis, so my team also helps me make sure I can focus on meeting my academic responsibilities, while still being productive at work and learning what Boeing is all about.

How has your internship shaped your career goals?

As I am finishing my master’s degree and about to start my PhD at Texas A&M, I came into the internship with the intent to learn more about this industry, make long-lasting connections, and improve my skills as an engineer. I feel that I have met these goals and surpassed my expectations.

What are your tips for accomplishing your best work?

Be communicative and open to feedback at every step in your journey. Being able to talk with those around you about problems you’re facing, ideas you have, or feedback on what you've done is invaluable both in your career and academia.

What advice do you have for students who are interested in interning with us?

Be willing to be a part of a community. Boeing is like nothing I have experienced before. It is a large company that feels like a small family.

I’m only here for a short time, but I felt instantly included, and everybody has shown genuine interest and compassion for my academic, professional, and personal life. I doubt you'll be able to find that anywhere else.
