Rapoport-King Thesis Scholarships

The Rapoport-King Thesis Scholarships honor Audre and Bernard Rapoport and Robert D. King, former Dean of the College of Liberal Arts. Audre and Bernard Rapoport of Waco, Texas have provided an endowment that enables the College of Liberal Arts to provide scholarship and research support for those students who are writing a thesis in one of the Departmental Honors Programs the year they apply.

To be eligible for a Rapoport-King Scholarship, candidates must be enrolled as a Plan I student and must be planning to write a senior thesis in one of the College's departmental honors programs. They must be working on the thesis as part of a Fall - Spring sequence. Fellows will be chosen on basis of academic record, the quality of the thesis proposal, and financial need. As Mr. Rapoport has put it: the candidates should be "smart and deserving." The dean will make final recommendations.

Those chosen will be awarded a $3,000 scholarship for the senior year only; it will be awarded in two payments over two consecutive long semesters. In addition, faculty members will be provided with a $1,000 research stipend, and it is expected that the student and mentor will work closely together.

Apply for the Rapoport-King Thesis Scholarship through the LASSO Scholarship portal by going to "Apply Now" and then finding the scholarship under your "Tasks."  You can also access the scholarship application directly in LASSO. The application requires a thesis proposal,  statement of financial need, and a letter of recommendation from your thesis supervisor, all of which should be submitted through the scholarship portal. The deadline for applications is Wednesday, October 2nd, 2024 at 11:59 pm.

Note: To access this application, students must have one of the following honors code on their major. Students can check if they have this code by looking up their major in the directory and seeing if there is an honors description after their major, i.e. /Plan 1 Honors; /Departmental Honors; /Liberal Arts Honors.  Please see your academic advisor if you need to get this code added.
