Requests for help from a sysop or bureaucrat (at Meta-Wiki only)

Meta-Wiki has a small active community. When a normal user requires the assistance of an administrator or bureaucrat for some particular task, it is not always easy to find one. This page helps users find one when they need one; asking specific admins directly via their talk pages is one way to elicit a fast response. It is only for assistance required at Meta-Wiki, help for other wikis needs to be requested at those wikis.

SA 13 Bro and machine translation

Hello, user:SA 13 Bro has retired for a long time, but today when I patrolled around translations, I found this user has a history of introducing poor quality/ machine translations. For example, on 関西かんさいウィキメディアユーザ会かい/zh, some of their translations are gibberish and cannot be understand, such as '關西かんさい維基展てん台だい在ざい2010年ねん的てき關西かんさい開放かいほう源げん代だい碼' and '非ひ會議かいぎ'. Some users have told them stop machine translating on their talk pages on 2021, but this user created a lot of translations, after 2 years some still alive here. I'd like to request communities' help to clean up these mess.--Lemonaka (talk) 05:08, 3 March 2023 (UTC)

Rescuing as apparent COI as if I trust what they put on their userpage is true, we will be from the same region. My 2 cents, the translations is indeed poor but if I may comment that seems to arise from a lower level of comfort in Chinese language and something we have in zhwp called w:zh:WP:翻こぼし译腔 issues. In more technical terms, it means the person is just doing translation on a formal equivalence level but not dynamic equivalence level. Making it worse is their grasp of the language and hence, some of translations I agree they are not readable. However, I don't think any sanctions is appropriate here as blocks etc are preventative not punitive and since they did not edit for a while I don't see how they are beneficial. In addition, some communication might be helpful and they aren't not responding while editing elsewhere. I don't see a conduct issue per say here as their contributions is in good faith. For translation issues well the discussion can take place on talkpage, Meta:Babylon or elsewhere. That said, I will flag the translations for review and I think will be beneficial for someone else without COI to address. Camouflaged Mirage (talk) 10:09, 3 March 2023 (UTC)

Yeah, the purpose of this topic is not asking for a block or sanction, just ask for help from local communities. You had a headache, so did I. I don't know how to correct them because they are messy and vague. Lemonaka (talk) 11:24, 3 March 2023 (UTC)

@Camouflaged Mirage Hah, I came up of an idea of solving that, First of all, please check English translation of that page, if they are accurate, other volunteers including me can help to trim Chinese translations. @Lemonaka The issue is that I'm ja-0, so I am in no position to evaluate the state of en translations. I mean we can delete the zh translations, but well just editing them works too so I am not really inclined to delete. I am not opposed too but that seem more proper for RFD than here. If you aren't asking for a block or etc, I think this discussion of the translations can be held elsewhere as there isn't exactly needing of admin help but help in general which can and should take place elsewhere. Upon thinking, what I am concerned about now is should the user continue to hold (auto)patrol permissions given they are creating subpar pages (or a claim had been made). Pinging @Base as granter of AP and @Steinsplitter as granting of patroller. If no objections I am inclined to remove the privs as their edits do need to be patrolled.
