Steward requests/Miscellaneous

From Meta, a Wikimedia project coordination wiki
This is an archived version of this page, as edited by -revi (talk | contribs) at 07:39, 29 September 2022 (→‎Revert cross-wiki edits and block crosswiki single track account: change status). It may differ significantly from the current version.

This page is for Wikimedia wikis having no active administrators. Requests can be made here for specific administrative actions (such as page deletion) to be performed by a steward or global sysop. In other cases:
  • If the wiki does have active administrators, file the request with one of them.
  • If the wiki has an active editor community, any potentially controversial action (deletion of actual content, edit to a protected page, renaming of a protected page, etc.) should receive consensus from the wiki community before being requested here, and a link should be provided to that consensus in the request.
  • For global lock/block requests, file a request at Steward requests/Global.
  • For non-controversial deletion requests such as empty page, simple spam or vandalism, and non-controversial or emergency requests to block vandals, spammers or other malicious users, you may use global sysop requests instead.
  • If a consensus is considered required to act, similar principles apply as expressed at Steward requests/Permissions/Minimum voting requirements, and can be used for guidance to how and what should be done at small and medium communities to gain a consensus.

To add a new request, create a new section header at the bottom of the "Manual requests" section using the format below:

=== Very brief description of request here ===
{{Status|In progress}}
Give details about your request here. --~~~~

It is helpful if you can provide a link to the wiki (or the specific page on the wiki) in question, either in the header or in the body of your request.

When reporting cross-wiki vandalism, the following template calls can be used to link to a user's contributions across all Wikimedia content wikis (these are for logged in users and non-logged-in users, respectively):

* {{sultool|Username}}

* {{luxotool|IP.address}}

Template {{LockHide}} can also be used in appropriate cases.

To request approval of OAuth consumers please use {{oauthapprequest}} (see the documentation before using).

Old requests are archived by the date of their last comment.

Import gadgets from enwiktionary to fawiktionary

Status:    In progress

Hello, I was fixing on the fa:hello, and during the comparing between the hello and the fa:hello, I see Show/Hide Toggles for header Template:trans-top in fawiktionary is disable.

In Template:trans-top because the following two gadgets is enable for everyone by default, Toggles in header of Template:trans-top is displayed.

I have a request that a admin import MediaWiki:Gadget-VisibilityToggles.js and MediaWiki:Gadget-defaultVisibilityToggles.js to MediaWiki:Gadget-VisibilityToggles.js and MediaWiki:Gadget-defaultVisibilityToggles.js , and so add required configs for definitions these two gadget from en:definition to fa:definition.

"fake namespace" at mhrwiki

Status:    In progress
Moved from GSR.

Please nuke w:mhr:Special:PrefixIndex/Викиувер: OOS/No useful content. NguoiDungKhongDinhDanh 19:02, 8 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

This appears to be an improvised namespace for a Wikinews subproject. ~~~~

Is there any policy or consensus on this matter? NguoiDungKhongDinhDanh 19:56, 8 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
alswiki has a similar project. I suppose there was consensus given the number of pages, but not sure if that's sufficient to request the namespace to be actually created on Phabricator. ~~~~

According to w:mhr:Category:Викиувер, some of them were even created in Wikipedia namespace. I can't find any discussions that mention Викиувер; would you mind asking some local users (in Russian)? NguoiDungKhongDinhDanh 20:23, 8 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Done. ~~~~

Nearly three weeks have passed. Given that this page is only for non-controversial requests, those article can probably be left there for now. NguoiDungKhongDinhDanh 15:54, 28 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I wonder whether this is sufficient to create a Phab task. ~~~~

They should definitely be imported to Incubator, but, given that no comments were left at the discussion you started, it is likely that they will continue creating such articles. NguoiDungKhongDinhDanh 21:15, 28 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Moving this from GSR to SRM for further consideration, since this is no longer a simple request. ~~~~

  • Comment Comment I think they can be moved to existing namespace for now. It can be something like 'Wikipedia/wikinews/PAGENAME'. From there, community can decided what to do with those. Right now, I don't think we need a new namespace, and it's not up to us to decide that anyway. The community should get a consensus for a new namespace to be created.--BRP ever 00:36, 4 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
    I suppose the fact the namespace is de facto used is some kind of consensus. I don't think WP namespace is really appropriate for them though (only a few are currently located there, more likely on accident). ~~~~

Deletion requests at tkwiki

Status:    In progress

Hello, in tkwiki needs the page tk:К:Википедия:Статьи с источниками из Викиданных deletion. Also it needs to be put out from Templates (or Modules). Because it makes problems in template like in tk:Nýu-Ýork şäheri. TayfunEt. (talk) 09:27, 1 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@Styyx is a local sysop. ~~~~

1234qwer1234qwer4 I had deleted the template last midnight. The second problem however, isn't something I can resolve. The infobox used on tk:Nýu-Ýork şäheri is tk:Şablon:IN, created by a former sysop and probably based on something on ruwiki. I don't know why, but whenever the infobox is used, "К:Википедия:Статьи с источниками из Викиданных" seems to pop up at a few parameters (1, 2, 3) and sometimes none at all (1). Google translate say that it's a category, but it ends up inside the infobox, not at the end of the article. ~StyyxTalk? ^-^ 09:47, 2 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Styyx, this comes from tk:Module:Sources. ~~~~

Crap, stuff that is even more technical? ~StyyxTalk? ^-^ 00:17, 5 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
You only need to change the part where the category is attempted to be included. I changed the namespace prefix for now so it doesn't show up as a redlink within the infobox at least. ~~~~

Policy tags

I noticed that a relative newbie, who seems to have recently asked the Stewards to unblock them on their home wiki, also added Template:Global policy to some pages here at Meta-Wiki, including the Stewards policy. This seems like a bad idea, but maybe this one actually is a global policy? Global policy doesn't exist, so I can't find a definition. Some other pages with this tag, like Requests for comment/Policy, also include a link to an RFC or other formal decision about the page's status. What do you think? Revert cross-wiki edits and block crosswiki single track account

Status:    Not done

Bùi Trần Mạnh Thông [stalktoy] – [cross-wiki edits] is currently erasing all information about Vietnam being a part of The East Asian cultural sphere, across multiple wikis. I believe that these edits are not in good faith, partly because of the removal of citations to articles discussing the subject in peer-reviewed journals. The user is replacing these with an opinion article that, as far as I see, does not reach the same standard of reliableness.
Citations partly removed from enwp article, supporting Vietnam as a part of The East Asian cultural sphere:

Citation added to viwp article:

At the very least, these changes needs to be discussed before removing the information across several wikis, as it (as stated) has citations to back up the claims across several of these wikis. --Adjoka (talk) 11:48, 24 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

The block has been instated as of 12:00 (UTC). Manual revert in progess. --Adjoka (talk) 13:13, 24 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Deletion request on viwikiquote

Status:    In progress

Please help delete all the pages that are in this category, they are the ones that need to be speedily deleted. Unfortunately, viwikiquote doesn't have any admins except the Abuse filter. Thanks a lot -- MagicalNight97 (talk) 12:38, 25 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @MagicalNight97, thanks for your request! I reviewed some of the pages.
In case you're interested in acquiring adminship at vi.wikiquote, you can do that by making a request at q:vi:Wikiquote:Bảo quản viên (and after a week, ask a steward to evaluate the request at SRP). This will let you to delete similar pages yourself, without having to wait for a steward or a global sysop.

OAuth permissions

Preferably permission requests should be submitted using the form from Special:OAuthConsumerRegistration.

After submitting this form, you will receive a token that your application will use to identify itself to MediaWiki. An OAuth administrator will need to approve your application before it can be authorized by other users. It is possible to request approval using {{oauthapprequest}}, please create a sub-section to this part.

A few recommendations and remarks:

  • Try to use as few grants as possible. Avoid grants that are not actually needed now.
  • Versions are of the form "major.minor.release" (the last two being optional) and increase as grant changes are needed.
  • Please provide a public RSA key (in PEM format) if possible; otherwise a (less secure) secret token will have to be used.
  • Use the JSON restrictions field to limit access of this consumer to IP addresses in those CIDR ranges.
  • You can use a project ID to restrict the consumer to a single project on this site (use "*" for all projects).
  • The email address provided must match that of your account (which must have been confirmed).
