Argentina’s acclaimed Italian spot, Piegari Ristorante, beloved by celebrities, debuts its first U.S. outpost tonight, July 8, in Wynwood.
The restaurant's expansion to the United States marks a major milestone for the company, as it has been a fixture in Buenos Aires for 30 years. Menu highlights include dishes like Corde di Chitarra alla Carrettiera, guitar string pasta with pomodoro sauce; Ravioli alla Piegari, spinach and ricotta ravioli baked in cream pomodoro; and Fettucini al Nero di Seppia, squid ink fettuccine with shrimp in a creamy lemon garlic sauce topped with red caviar. An array of risotto can be found on the menu, including the seafood-focused Risotto Frutti di Mare, vegetable Risotto alla Primavera, and sirloin or lamb Risotto alla Ragú. Main course offerings include Branzino al Sale, sea salt-encrusted sea bass; Soglioloa, Dover sole with magnolia sauce; Milanese alla Napoletana, breaded sirloin with tomato and mozzarella; and Costoletta alla Salvia, veal chop with sage and roasted potatoes.
The restaurant is known for its desserts, such as crepés alla mela, flambeed tableside; vulcano al cioccolato, a rich chocolate dessert with vanilla ice cream; profiteroles filled with custard-cream ice cream and chocolate sauce; tiramisu; flan with cream and dulce de leche; and fragola alla lampara, glazed strawberries with ice cream and almonds.
The cocktail program offers a mix of classic and creative drinks and an impressive wine list. Standout cocktails include the Piegari Spritz with clementine juice, prosecco, and citrus cordial; Flora & Fauna with vodka, raspberry cordial, sage and lemon liqueur, aperitif, and prosecco; Let That Man-Go with tequila, mango, ginger, lime juice, and agave nectar; and The Slice of Life with gin, bergamot, blackberry and thyme cordial, and tonic.
The 160-seat dining room features natural tones with splashes of color, including tables, intimate booths, and spacious banquettes. Guests can watch the action unfold in the open kitchen. Blonde wood-paneled walls are complemented by shades of blue, greenery, and gold accents. The bar seats 16 and features white polished marble, dark blue wainscoting, backlit gold shelves, and stacked brick.
